I was helping a fellow busnut run down some problems and have been successful in all but one. The governor no longer activates the Jake brake switch. His governor looks different than mine and I just don't know much about them. The bus has a 6v92t, air throttle, working high idle. The governor has what looks like a paddle placed on its side sticking out the top. This paddle activates the switch when working, but it's not??? I am thinking about removing the top of the governor to see what's up. Any ideas how should I troubleshoot and fix this? Is there governor maintenance that has been overlooked? How are the internals lubed? Jakes are working fine except for this problem.
Doesn't sound right Barn Owl only thing you should have on the top is the throttle, holding arm and the shut down if anything it may have a micro switch that works off the throttle it activates the Jake when you lift off the throttle if he has that even with that set up if the throttle, fast idle and shut down is working look elsewhere it is not a governor problem leave the top on it
That paddle is the holding arm is for the fast idle you can get into deep trouble there my friend fooling with that holding arm you have photos it would help a bunch
good luck
My bad. By the top, I meant of the four sides the 12 o'clock side. My governor has the Jake switch facing the 12 o'clock side. His has a lever coming out of that spot that pushes the switch. I will get photos the next time I am there.
Without a photo this is the best I can do for now.
Looking down on it:

I can't work off your description, but I can tell you very quickly how to adjust the micro-switch (which works off the buffer screw rod).
There has to be a micro-switch at the governor. There are a couple of wires going to it, which make the jake brake make a connection to activate the Jake brakes. With the engine shut off. loosen the two screws that hold the micro-switch in place. Move the micro-switch in and out towards the governor and you will hear a click. The adjustment is made when you push the micro-switch in, hear it click, and pull it back just enough to the position where it is not clicking. Then tighten down the two screws that hold the micro-switch without pushing it back in to where it clicked.-- You need to have the engine on start position without starting it to do this because of the air shut-down which throws the governor off.
Your micro-switch is set and if everything else is right the Jakes should work when you back off the throttle.
You've heard the expression "easier said than done"?, well, in this case it is easier done than said!! (when you have done it hundreds of times).

Geoff -
Isn't this what you did to Tom & Doreen's 4106 the other week?
I have a buffer switch for a Jake, but the darn thing's broken - got crushed in shipping. :'(

You guys ok w/ that big power outage back east??

Barn Owl,that one looks like it is rigged the same as Bur's Prevost it dosen't work off the buffer rod at the governer but the throttle you see those but most of the time there will be 2 switches involed on a Allision it will have a pressure switch and with the manual transmission will be at the clutch
The buffer switch at governer is the way to go but there are tons of different ways to hook a Jake up and bus people can do some some tricks with one lol they amaze me with their ideas some work some don't
good luck
