Title: Got myself a good deal at Amazon
Post by: belfert on June 30, 2012, 11:19:33 AM
I needed to get two 50 foot 1/2" air hoses for my new 3/4" impact wrench.  I wanted the Goodyear because they are made in the USA.  Amazon had the best prices at $55 each shipped.

When I was on Amazon they had two used ones listed from Warehouse Deals by Amazon (Basically stuff returned by Amazon customers).  One was listed as Used - Like New and the other as Used - Very Good.  I took a chance and ordered them because I saved $15 on each.  They arrived the other day and they are both still in the sealed packages and you would never know they had been sent out and returned.  The reason the one was rated very good was simply because someone had removed the cap over the threads and put it back on.

I was hoping to get the air hoses for less than $100 and I ended up only paying $80.  It pays to check the used items on Amazon.  (Now I just have to wait for the couplers and plugs to show up.)

If I am buying something I really can't get locally I'll check Google Shopping.  Google Shopping lists the prices at all different websites.  In this case Amazon was the cheapest with shipping.  Amazon was really cheap after I got the hoses from their clearance site.

I did find one place locally to get the hoses, but they wanted $70 each and I didn't know if they actually had them at the store or just online.

You got I good deal, I like goodyear hoses, they are more limber and easier to handle and roll up. some of the hoses you get free with a compressor you might as well throw away, same goes for pessure washer hose, I always check Amazons prices first they are usually among the best.

Isn't there a "membership" in Amazon for not much money that gets you free shipping on most items?

Items sold directly by Amazon (Not a third party seller as many items are) always have free shipping, but your order has to be $25 or more.  They call it Super Saver Shipping.  They also have Prime membership for $79.  Everything that Amazon sells directly gets shipped by 2nd day air and no $25 minimum.  I have a 3 month free Prime trial I just started.

It appears that Amazon is purposely slowing down their free shipping.  Items with the Super Super Shipping consistently ship two business days after the order is placed.  Prime orders usually ship the vary same day.  If the order ships the next business day Amazon will upgrade to next day shipping at no cost.  I ordered a razor a few weeks before Christmas on a Saturday.  I had it on Monday even though it was supposed to be two day.  It was picked up by UPS on Saturday and Amazon sent it next day for some reason.

Amazon's shipping is not always "free".  The Goodyear hose was $55 with free shipping.  Other vendors sold it for around $50, but they wanted around $10 for shipping.

Thanks, Brian.  That's what The Management has.  She orders a lot of items on it and she thinks it's worth the $$$.  (But like you say, there's a lot of "Deja Moo" in regards to price, shipping, "handling" etc.)
