We drove the bus all through downtown, and even picked up my mom at the airport... went right up to the terminal with it. The airport is a breeze to get around and get back onto the interstate. The more I see other cities' airports, the more I LOATHE ours in Denver (or should I say, the one nearly in Kansas). Anyways, STL was an easy place to get around with our 35 coach. There was free parking for RVs at the Arch along the riverfront. A cop even blocked traffic with his car so I could turn around to use it. We had one close call with clearance on the riverfront where we went down a steep hill to a 12'-2" marked bridge. I was prepared to back up the hill, but with my wife's watchful eye, I now know we can BARELY clear 12'-2" with the A/C unit.

Parking downtown was easy when I found a string of empty meters. We parked a block from Union Station for 75 cents an hour x 2. My wife rode the Metrolink (light rail) from downtown to the airport ($2 one-way, $4.50 day pass), and said it was very nice. We would have packed the rest of us on it to sightsee, but for the five of us it was cheaper to take the bus... and eat sandwiches instead of eating out.

The Casino Queen RV park is right across from the Arch. Many thanks to Sean Welsh for the tip... he posted the park on his Blog (http://ourodyssey.blogspot.com/) during their stay in STL. Just take the Eads Bridge and it's a piece of cake. The park is no-frills, $22.50 with my FMCA discount, w/ 30A or 50A service. For those that gamble, I think there was some discounts. They have a free shuttle to the boat... and maybe other places (we didn't use it). We had to buy propane at one point, and had to drive maybe ten minutes east to another RV park. I met a busnut there converting a transit Gillig. Nice guy. I recommended he join and post here, so I hope he does.

It's a nice city, with lots of stuff to do and see. It was buzzing, of course, from the recent Cards WS win. We barely scratched the surface in a day and a half... the Arch plus museum and one Imax film, the Old Courthouse, and Union Station. The kids learned a lot at each one, and got Jr. Ranger badges at the Old Courthouse for filling out an interactive guide. The Park Rangers at both places were very nice and playful.

We'll be back!

OH NO,
IS IT POSSIBLE?
A busnut actually didn't check out the most important sight in all of Missouri?????

You missed the Budweiser brewing plant.
This is really a disappointment to bus nuts everywhere.

WOE IS ME!!!!

But then, I really love the photo's you did send, and for those that have questions, ( Not you Richard, Janet would HURT you), Inquiring minds want to know if Mom is available, (now the guy sitting next to me is embarrassed), And if she would be interested in a 71 yr. old retiree.

BTB, none of this has been my IDEA!
If Cat thought I was trolling, I wouldn't have anything left to troll with!

Dallas, not to be snobbish, but you have to understand that I'm a beer geek beyond beer geeks. AHB is not on my radar as far as brewers I frequent. Besides, the rival brewery in Golden is the one to tour, if one pines to see a real mega swill-beer factory.  ;D Here come the flames!!!  :o  As a peace offering, PM me your snail mail sometime and I'll send you a beer geek poster that I created. Gratis, of course. You'll be floored by my geekiness.  ;) Offer stands for any moderator or hero member here on MAK.

Oh, and Mom is flattered, to be sure. I told her to first find our if said retiree has a Prevo$t or a newer MCI before she answers definitively... BUT, she protested and told me to tell everyone that she's been happily hitched to my "busless" Dad for going on 30 years. For those doing the math at home, Dad adopted my older brother and me when she remarried when I was 8. Our "sperm donor" took off when Mom got deathly ill from a spider bite when I was 5. Never heard from him again, if you can believe it. So there's never been a doubt as to who gets to wear the title Dad in my family.

Mom/Mimi turned 60 on Friday, and we had a surprise party for her last night. I did up a video montage to make her cry... and it worked!

Sorry for the blather. But, here's my folks, whom I love so deeply...

Brian-great pictures of St Louis.  As a Diesel nut, I want to go to the AHB brewery for the single reason of seeing the first production Diesel brought to the US.  Busch worked with Sulzer (still in business) in europe and made the Busch/Sulzer engine company.  AHB had the first one that they used up until just a few years ago for powering a compressor.  It is one of those big ordeals that has the big flywheel and turns slowly.
Keep it safe on your trip-am jealous.  Good Luck, TomC

Tell your mother I think she is fibbing about her age.  She doesn't even look any where near 60.

the poor guy only had a Bounder Class A and he got so upset he left. hahaha!

As for AHB, I couldn't agree more. IIRC Michelob was actually created by scab laborers in a batch that didn't come out right during a strike. It was originally called something like "Mud" beer.

My favorite brewery up until a few years ago was the Olympia brewery in Tumwater, Wa. ("It's the Water, and a lot More").

I liked the "Artesians" Commercials for Oly, But Henry's is still my favorite, Albeit impossible to get out on this coast, I remember when I went to boot camp. I asked for a blitz in Pa. and Got a BLATZ,  Hellluva name for a beer, I think it waqs actually a warning of what happened after you drank it   ::)
