Title: Plate on DD 6V92
Post by: Tikvah on June 23, 2012, 08:49:04 AM
I have the rear bumper and the plate off behind the engine, working on a hitch.

The engine is very clean, was new or newly rebuilt when I purchased the bus.  But, I just found this plate.  I don't know what it means, but I assume some kind of details about the rebuild.

Can anyone give some input?

The information reads (as best as I can tell):
--------------------------------
  T R A N S O O   (or T R A N S C O)

  00       295

  Bore  -  STD

  ROD  -  010

  MAIN  -  010
-------------------------

Thanks for any input,
Dave

Bore  -  STD  Means that the size of the piston sleeves (cylinders) is STandarD

ROD  -  010  The crankshaft has been turned down in diameter .010 inches for new bearings between the crankshaft and the connecting RODs.

MAIN  -  010  The crankshaft has been turned down in diameter .010 inches for new bearings between the crankshaft and the engine block.  These bearings are called the MAIN bearings.

Nice to have that documented!!!

It is a rebuild from Transco Feb of 1995 the crank has been turned on mains and rods which is not bad 92 series will pretty much always be standard bore too much money and time to bore a 92 series not like boring a 71 series

Don't take that info for granted. When I overhauled my 4-71, I ordered parts according to a plate like that on the block. They were the wrong size and had to reorder. The plate was from a previous rebuild and nobody bothered to remove it.
