Title: New Paint
Post by: Kwajdiver on June 22, 2012, 09:38:54 AM
What was blue is now white!    ;D     Is it a $10,000.00 paint job no.  Then again it only cost two grand.
Is it perfect, no, but then again it only cost $2000.00 and looks much better than it did.
I'm having the stainless steel polished this weekend.

I see some shine on it.  Looks good (and price is sure right).

Looking good Bill.  Right now I'm about 3k all in on my DIY repaint job.  That includes the cost of a 1.5 HP compressor, some air tools, paint guns, sanding discs, paint, West System epoxy - everything in other words except my labour.  Since I clearly don't have a clue what I am doing, valuing my labour at zero seems like maybe putting too much value on it.  If the effing rain holds off for more than two successive days next week I'll post some pix of the finished product.  My goal is something that looks OK 60 miles away at 60 MPH.

Bob,

Remember a few years ago I was out in AZ.  I painted the bus myself.  It look like crap.   ::)  If you have never sprayed painted before, hire someone to help you get started.  There is a knack for getting it on the bus and making it shine.

Have fun, looking forward to the photos.

Thanks Bill but there's an oldster in town who's been keeping an eye on me.  There's not much to do in Buchanan (pop. 202) so when somebody starts painting a bus it attracts a crowd.  This guy used to own a body shop so he knows what's what.  I put some paint on about 2 weeks ago when I still thought I could colour match the old paint and it looked surprisingly good - just not matched close enough to live with it.  I've got a couple of HVLP guns which seem to be MUCH easier to use than the guns we used to have in the shop.  And easier cleanup too.

And remember - my goal is a 60/60 paint job - looks good from 60 miles away while going 60 MPH.  Maybe I'll get lucky and get me a 20/20 job.

The paint is an acrylic enamel by Matrix.  Airtic White, also known as Corvette White.
