I have been trying to get my 40 wt oil for the oil change. I have used Delo 100 in the past but wanted to switch to Delvac 1240. I spent a bunch of time trying to find a place to order it, but came up empty handed here in Socal. The same happened with XD-3, so I went back to looking for Delo 100. I was happy to find I could get it from O'Reilly as I had last year. I have been waiting for the order to come in now for a week but was told today that the order was kicked out since it was considered "bulk". They say that they will try to get past that issue Monday, but this is really a nuisance!
FWIW I have found Delo 100 40W in Cenex stores along the coast. I can't remember whether that was in California or Oregon but I think it was California. I forgot to go back to the Wallyworld in Saskatoon to p/u 40W pails of house brand oil last week. Its really unusual to find it in Walmart up here but there it was and then I completely forgot to go back and pick some up.
Southern Counties Lubricants in Orange CA has Delo 100 straight 40W in stock, and their prices are good. (At least, they did a few months ago when I was last there.)

It's seems to me to be sort of odd that heavy duty Mobil and Exxon products are hard to get here. I suppose that the area is just not industrial enough. I have called various oil distributers and have gotten nowhere. Hopefully, O'Reilly's will come through. They said they had the Delo 100 in the warehouse in Pheonix, but the order was canceled because it was "bulk". It is a bit strange that they would stock a bulk product and not send it because it was bulk. Anyway, the guy said he thinks he can get 3 gallons from not far away and I've got at least 3 in storage, so it looks like we should be able to get something done. I suppose that the next time I'm in an area that has better resources, I should stock up for next year.
One thing that seems to help is having the product part number. Even at O'Reilly, if I ask for Delo 100 40wt, they can't find it, but if I tell them I want CHV-100-40-1, they can. I suspect that since some of the stores stock Delvac 1300 oils, that they could get the 1200 oils also but would need the Mobil part number to be able to figure it out.
For all my various engines, it is my habit to purchase the fixings for the next fluid/filter changes when I use the ones I bought last time, and have them on the shelf.
Parts numbers fresh in hand, and no problem if they need ordering, since there is no rush.

Exxon XD 3 is no longer made they stopped last year fwiw but the Delvac 1240 should not be that hard to find
Well, I've found a 76 ditributor that has T5x in bulk. You bring your own containers for them to fill about 1.5 hours from me. We do get up that way sometimes anyway. I also got contected by Mobil to their distributer in the area, also about 1.5 hours away. They can order Delvac in 5 gal pails if I set up an account with them. So it looks like we will have something that will work. The Mobil rep said that they have no one that buys that product in this area.
The last time I bought Delo 100, I just went to the store, ordered it, and they had it in a couple if days. Since it was so easy, I did not think to stock up in advance. The lesson is to secure the oil far in advance so it's there when I want it.
The Mobil part #'s are 98KJ23 for cases of four 1 gal bottles, ( which the distributor here says he can not get), and 98G347 for the 5 gal buckets.
CA is a tough place to buy oil for a 2 stroke,plenty around San Diego at the marinas I can buy just about any brand in Mohave Valley or Needles CA.
I have the guy in Needles ship mine to his AZ store that way I don't have to deal with all the bs on the CA side LOL
The railroad in Needles brings 1240 in on rail tank cars 42,000 gals at a pop for the EMD engines, that will make you droll when the hose will hold 3 oil changes for a 8v71

I live in the Cajon Pass area, the closest source of 40wt oil was West Marine in Riverside off the 91 fwy and Tyler. I ordered 10 gallons from them earlier this year (April I think)
I got 5 - 1 gallon bottles and a 5 gallon bucket.
Price was reasonable, ordered it on Tuesday and got it on Friday. They also sell it on their website but shipping fees may be too much.

I have 76 T5X in my engine now. ABC Bus in Costa Mesa put it in when they changed my oil, but they no longer have any of it. One caveat - its ash content is 1%, the maximum for CF2. If you drive a lot it may be worth trying to find a lower ash oil such as Delo 100 or Shell Rotella.

The 76 guy said it was .08 ash content, but I did not check online.
Anyway, O'Reilly's said they will have 3 gallons of Delo 100 for me tomorrow from another store. That, plus what I have on hand, will cover this oil change. I ordered another 6 gallons (2 cases) from them to have on hand. I have also applied to open an account at a Mobil distributor in Bloomington. They can order 5 gallon pails. I do not need them right away, but figure I will at least have a source to next time, and I can pick it up when I happen to be in the area.
I have heard some people say that different brand oils should not be mixed, but wonder it really is an issue for topping off. What's the true story on that?
The new Delo 400 I use in the MH is .05 ash content you guys worry to much about that stuff high ash content is not going to hurt one only makes for less miles on a oil change check your TBN you may need more ash lol
Hi Lin, my old literature had the lower ash content number, the web site has the higher now, I would assume some new formulation, still within DD specs I think, Clifford, are you saying more frequent oil changes reduces the ash issue? Had a difficult time locating Delo 100 40w here in Vegas, lvmci...
Tom, I have been using the Delo 400 with good results. I get it here in boulder city through car quest, I'm with Clifford on this one.

I did the oil change this morning with the Delo 100 from O'Reilly's. I did as Clifford suggested and cut open the oil filter. Who would have thought mice could live in there!. Anyway, I did not find anything else extraordinary in the filter. Is there any particular thing I should be looking for?
I've never actually cut a filter open but I assume the goal is to find nothing (other than dirty oil). So it sounds like your mission was accomplished. ;D
If you find a piston skirt (some assembly required) - that would be bad.
