Title: 4104 Original Air Conditioning Bay Area
Post by: Kevin on May 24, 2012, 03:43:29 PM
Hello All,

Am curious as to what other '04 owners have done to the forwardmost driver's side bay that once housed original air conditioning engine/compressor (assuming that the engine/compressor have been removed already in order to make room for generator).

At the forward end of the compartment immediately under the bus floor there is what appears to be some sort of sheet metal duct work. Has anyone removed this? Is this ducting tied-in to the original bus heating system? I am still enjoying the original bus heat and have no wish to remove it.

I had hoped to install my generator a bit further forward in this compartment but the duct work suspended from below flooring is going to interfere with fit, specifically the generator engine cylinder head/valve cover area.

If I move the entire genset rearward a bit I will be losing valuable remote-mounted radiator space. I think I can squeeze it all in regardless, but thought about maybe eliminating the sheet metal work if it has to do with the original air conditioning rather than original heat.

Anyone familiar?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Its me the bus thief, if you check my pics on photobucket, you will see what my buses PO did
in that bay. First door opens to 6,5kw genetator with exaust pipe back to engine area. And storage behind the the screen and shore power
cords.

If you are going to buses gone wild, I am only about 10 min from Paul.

Hey Jon,

Yes, that's the area I am curious about. Appears that the sheet metal duct work in your bay has been eliminated. Does your coach still have the original bus heat? I'm a little uncertain, but it appears to me that the ducting on mine comes from the original heater core/fan compartment. I don't want to disturb the ducting if that is indeed the case. Hopefully someone knows the answer.

Yeah, just replied to Paul regarding "Wild". Unfortunately I will be kept busy attempting to install the gennie into the bus over the weekend and it appears that it will be a big job and a rather tight fit in every regard; length, width and height-wise. Wish me luck!

Kevin,

Tomorrow I can take some pics facing the interior floor/top of the bay and see if that will help. With our 57 our only source of bus heat comes through the defroster. No other heat settings sn the bus.

In my quest I have seen the same set up replicated in atleast
20 other coaches.

Hi Jon,

I'm guessing the duct work is heating, especially since noting that yours is obviously absent in that bay - and you say you have defroster heat (separate core in dash) but not the original ducted heat throughout bus.

I will work around it best I can because we always use our heater while motoring during cold months. Are you going to make it to "Wild"? Sounds like a fun get-together!

Thanks for pic,
Kev

Kevin,

You couldn't keep me away from a local bus get together
with a big stick.  Taking my Outback, not my bus. Today is the
last day for our schools and Chuck is filling up my time like it is going
out of style. I am bringing my pro camera to take pics of the event.

Kevin,

Gennie exaust, my PO ran the exaust pipe down the center under the bays to an  exaust pipe below the emergency exit.

That sheetmetal covers the bottom of the air distribution compartment which has temp regulators and air valves plus it directs air to the coach interior.

If you remove this you will lose all airflow for the original heating system. If you're not using the original heating (it works great) you won't need this but removing it will be a mess!! The air flows directly from the original heating and AC coils to this area.

I used the rearward part of the original AC comp for my genset and the fwd part for LP bottles.

Hi Gus,

Thanks! That's what I suspected. Since we use the heat regularly I will not disturb any of the original ducting in that area. Generator I have is LARGE but bought and paid for years ago so it's going in, overkill or not.

Jon,

Same thing was done to exhaust on mine by previous owner who had a Kubota. It runs out under the rear bumper next to main engine exhaust. Thanks!

Kevin,

How is your gennie project going? Are you done yet? Or are you going to need a 3rd day for your project?.

Hey Jon,

It's in (after 14 hours :o yesterday) but I've got lots of little things to finish up yet... install fan and radiator, fuel lines (to original 25 gallon A/C tank), wiring, etc.

Was too bushed to boogie today. Feel like I been beat with a stick! ;D LOL! Didn't work on the bus today at all... Really wanted to maybe make a run out to Paul's but had some some things to do... Had to buy a new battery for Wife's car. Too tuckered out to install today so will do tomorrow.

Did you enjoy "Wild"? Really would have liked to come. Pics?

Kevin,

Had a blast at buses gone wild, sorry no pic's. Got to the get together late kinda twilight. As it turns out some pesky rodents are eating the water lines on my manufactured home. It appears they like the taste of quest pipe.  Had to dig out a lot of dirt to access what turned out to be one of the areas the varmits chewed on my pipes.  By the time I finished that one section, and then ran up to WW to take a shower at my mother in laws house it was late.  But I met MCIGenes from this list, he had pics of his new pit. All I can say is WOW.

Met a gentleman from Mojave (his name eludes me at the moment) that has 6 Crowns, driven past his house several times in the past.  Met a few other people and talked bus until it was too cold to chat any more.

Today was spent figuring out where else the varmits compromised my plumbing.
