After using a padlock (blech) for many years, I finally put in a real door lock on my bus.
I had bought an RV door latch and bolt and catch that I was going to install (it's for sale cheap if anyone wants it), but it was keyed, and I wanted an easier way for me and my friends to get in and out of my bus.
So finally I decided to get a keypad deadbolt, the kind you can get at a Home Depot or Lowe's for your front door.

The whole install took about a day, mostly fidgeting with trying to figure out how to fit the keypad to the thick bus door - I needed to order some extension parts for a few bucks online. Total cost of the project was about $130, including a few blades I managed to destroy in the process. :)

Dave,
Thanks for posting. Love being able to see what others are working on. It's a bit of extra work to take pictures and post as you go but I am grateful for that. We have a door handle that locks but no deadbolt. This gives me some ideas to add on to the list of many things we need to do to our bus. Great job at sticking with it and getting it done.
What type of blade/drill bit did you end up using to cut through the steel on the door?
-Sean
I drilled some starter holes, then used a jigsaw to open the hole up and a drill with a grinding bit to clean it out. Went through a bunch of metal blades in the jigsaw dealing with that much metal, as well as the weird angles involved.
Did A similar setup on ours using stainless hardware. Love it so far.
