Title: Trailer
Post by: Ace on May 08, 2012, 02:34:46 PM
Anybody got a lead on a good used stacker trailer preferably around 20-22 foot with or without lift? Aluminum would be nice and fancy paint is not required! Plain white or black is just fine!

Didn't you just sell one of those?
Just curious.

Darrin thanks for the lead! I have contacted John Spellings at bus for sale and yes, this one could work for me IF we can come to terms. AND this trailer is not that far from me, IF I could only deal direct with the seller.... hmmmm

Ace,

There's a two car stacker in Branford, CT for sale at a used car dealership.  It's been there for at least 6 months.  I'll get the name of the place for you on Monday if you're interested in calling them.

Went yesterday on a 4 hour ride one way to check out the trailer that Darrin posted and although I was excited about it and still am let me say the trailer shows much better in pictures than in person!
A few things need replacing like the six tires that only have 500 miles on them supposedly and the 6 pin round plug that has been butchered. The 9 cabinets in the front turn out to be just doors with no separation inside so they are useless the way they are. Also a hydraulic leak in the lift system!
Being a 1998 trailer and the mfr being out of business makes me think it's a little over priced but since the actual owner was out if town until Monday, it gives me some time to make a reasonable offer and hopefully he will accept it!

Well I got some numbers together to present to the owner but it appears he may have a change of mind about selling since its been listed for a year or more. He isn't wanting to communicate at all now. Didn't even get a chance to make a reasonable offer. He should at least answer the phone especially after someone (me) traveled 8 hrs round trip not to mention the 2 hours I spent looking the trailer over but it is what it is!
If I don't hear from him in a day or two I'll move on to another one!

Ace,
Looks like it would be a nice project.
As you noticed on your trip to look at it that wiring is a mess & needs cut off and redone properly to avoid future continuous problems.
6 new tires in the proper size/range are going to set you back a good bit.
The cabinetry ~ well you know better than the rest of us what kinda materials and your time that it's gonna take. (your time is $ too!)
The lift repairs may or may not be expensive, but again your time is $ too!

I'd guess with his choice of advertising locations he is probably hoping for a big $ pocket buyer to buy it sight unseen and have it picked up or delivered by a 3rd party. (that way the buyer would have to "eat" the repair costs after the sale, which is probably why he isn't returning your calls!)

Like I said could be a nice project, but it's not a steal @ that price with all that you know it needs! (not counting hidden issues you don't know about yet!)

Ok FINALLY we made contact! The seller called me thinking I was a busy business man and didn't want to be bothered! We BOTH had a good laugh!
Anyway, I made my offer and the good thing is he didn't hang up. He DID say that although the trailer has been listed at busforsale for quite a while that when and if he sells it he needs to give them 2k for the listing commission, but he also said since they are business friends for a long time that he would call them tomorrow and try to get that fee waived or at least reduced!
When I talked to them trying to find out the seller info, they sort of told me here it is and make your own deal which kind of tells me that since its been so long and unsold that they just might want out of the loop!
Anyway I should know sometime tomorrow if a deal can be struck!
It's a good project like BK. stated for the price I offered but definitely not what he has it listed for. Too many others cheaper in better shape except the travel time out of state to retrieve it!
Here's hoping for a great Tuesday!

The trailer deal is a no go! It seems John spellings had this trailer listed for about a year and a half and  the owner not really pushing to sell it but after the owner talked to JS, JS advised him not to sell for my offer because he felt he could get more!
Ok I offered him 16k after seeing it in person. He was asking 26,900 but said he would take 22,400.
After my offer he Said he had to pay JS 2k for listing it but IMHO  a bit high. He said he would try to get them to either lower the fee or waive the fee.
After all said and done, the fee is still 2k and the price is still 22,400

Both are crazier than hell!

The search continues!
