I;ve seen warnings about cracked fire walls but never gave it much thought. Iv'e had my 06 for 20 years and just noticed some cracks. Because of my age I wont be driving it many more years. Probably just sell it for junk when I quit driving it.
Any of you experts ever had any expierence with the problem? What happens if I just ignor it?

If its the wall that the trans goes thru,, then its not a "firewall",, its a "bulkhead" for reinforcing the engine cradle area. These cracks can be easily welded and strengthened around the trans hole and they often are.>>>Dan ;)
Just send it to me I would love another 4106, I will give her a good home.:}
Jll, get her prepped and I'll gladly weld her up for you if your down here in Texas.

I have saw those bulkhead all cutup where people have cut large holes to access the starter and install transmissions the ones I have seen with angle or flat iron with 5/16th bolts holding it together a few cracks would not be something I would worry about lol
JLL,
My 4106 has the same cracks in the bulkhead. I was worried at first, too. When I looked at it most closely, I realized that someone had ready fixed it by reinforcing the bulkhead with a sheet of thick aluminum bolted to it from the axle side. It was welded and then a dozen or so bolts were installed. The cracks were left alone and are visible from the engine side.
Is it possible you have a reinforcement plate installed already?

Thanks for the offer to weld it Muldoonman. I'm in central California so I don't think I'll be going to Texas. If it was 20 years ago I would give it some thought. Just for the record, you said get it prepped. Exactly what does that mean.
I'm 85 years old and in great health. But we don't travel like we did 15 years ago Usually about 2 trips a year, Between San Diego and Portland Or. and over to Twin Falls and Tahoe.
I restored the bus myself and have really enjoyed it for 21 years. I have a shop with a pit to do the servicing. So I still have fun with it. Maybe one or two more years.
