Title: L10 Cummins Priming Procedure?

Have a friend who's Bob Tail tractor ran out of fuel.  Anybody know the prime procedure for getting her back on the road?  1985 International, looks like and says its a mechanical L10. (I think) The fuel tanks are now full.   HB of CJ (old coot)

Make sure your fuel filters are full, crank for 10 seconds, then check and refill fuel filters again. Repeat.  Good Luck, TomC

Hello:     THe injector pump needs to have the solenoid on top hot to allow the high pressure fuel into the cylinders. THe drain line should be checked to see if fuel is returning from the fuel rail.
  THe fuel filters must be full and free to pass fuel...
     THen  fill the pump from the top. THe solenoid valve has a very small operating area so if the solenoid is not very very flat (a slight bulge is bad) then it will not open. IF one puts 24 volts onto a 12 volt solenoid it won't last long.
 Check  12 volts to the solenoid ;  then make sure the pump is full and a source of fuel is available to the pump. CAn be a can of fuel to a line into the pump. THen rotate the engine. One other cause could be the driver for the pump is stripped. If so the pump or the air compressor should be checked . THe pump and air compressor are hooked together and drive off the gear train.  
   This info is for a mechanical engine . If it is computer then I don't know..

I don't know about the L-10 specifically but with my 5.9 Dodge, it's a very simple matter.

I just crack three lines at the injectors (11/16") and crank it over a bit.  As soon as fuel starts coming from the injector fittings, I tighten them up and it takes off running.  I've done it a few times over the years and I can usually get it running in ten minutes.

Len-the L10 has a PT (Pressure Timed) system rather then your individual injection lines from the injection pump.  You could crack the pressure line going to the main rail if you know which is feed and not use the return. When doing it this way, you need to put your foot on the floor on the accelerator when cranking to get maximum flow through the feed injector line to the head.  Good Luck, TomC

Will communicate.  She says she is getting tired of taking off time to go fishing.  What??  Tractor pulls single short trailers full of groceries for non-profit food banks here in SW OR...seems the relief driver, (not me...not me!) forgot to fill up with diesel.   HB of CJ (old coot) :)

Fuel tanks were full after the relief driver had them filled up.  It was NOT me! :).  The fuel filtures were almost bone dry.  Filled them up with new filtures, cranked her over, refilled and she fired right up.  Fun little bobtail to drive.  Ten speed Roadranger.  But...no Jake.
