What happens when your 4104 needs a fan hub?? Anybody know what I'm talkin' about?? If you changed yours where did you get a replacement.
john you known i will help you john
Thanks John,
We need something to work with.....
try gmbusguy.com
my question here is what value is there in replacing a hub with another used bit nearly as old/ready to give up the ghost? Any new ones to be had. I ask as the hub is a pretty dramatic failure point on the 6-71.
Anyone have photos of the hub I have a strange looking fan hub and I have no idea what it came from but my thinking is it came from a 6-71 we converted to a belt drive fan
10-4 on dramatic failure, you could wipe out a months salary real easy. I have dodged this bullet once but I may not be so lucky the next time. Every 4104 I have ever been able to get my hands on I have grabbed the fan and tested the slack compared to mine. I have seen them rock solid and I have seen them where I could turn the fan at least 1/2 in. I have not know any of them to fail except mine! the one I have has about 1/4 in slack. There is a replacement available from GMbusguy, it's $849.00, listed on the web site. The one that failed, I thought I would never have to worry about, it is in a well maintained 1960 and it was solid no slack at all. It failed about two miles from home and I found it before the fan came off. I replaced it with the one from a '58 that I have worried about from the git go. Still worring about it ???
I have the failed one I will try to take a picture of it and post it.
I guess they don't fail all that often. There have been very few posts to this thread. Nobody has said theirs failed.
oh they fail...there was a guy who went down to mexico a couple years ago his came apart and took the rad with it. Mine is a solid hub not the torus one so I am hoping it is a little more robust....but robust at 59 yrs old ain't all that tough.
