Title: Can A Detroit Diesel DDEC Be Converted Back To A MUI Engine?
Post by: HB of CJ on April 17, 2012, 04:51:58 PM
Can a DDEC Detroit be reconfigured back to the mechanical multi unit injector model with no electronics?  All of us tin foil hat owners need to prepare for the huge electro magnetic pulse.

Yes!  But it is not easy.  Replace cams, injectors to MUI, the governor and maybe your pistons will  work.  Better to get an MUI replacement engine.  That's why I bought an '82 RTS with federal cams that I could upgrade to 350HP with no problems.  I have always hated electronic controls because the 'factory' controlled what you could do with your engine.

Nuff' said.

6V92TA DDECIII. Added rocker shafts, Jake, 9G85 injectors, mechanical governor and rods, rebuilt blower and viola a mechanical 350HP 6V92.
I had a donor mechanical engine, reason for a low bus price, for the bits and parts. Bought rebuilt injectors.

Sold the engine for what I paid about two years later. New owner is still happy.
