Title: Ideas for a 4106 Entry Screen Door?
Post by: technomadia on April 13, 2012, 09:54:34 AM
Greetings all!

Next week we'll be working with a building contractor (Chris' uncle) in the Tampa area to do our next round of bus mods.  On the the list is refinishing the interior of our entry door. The wood on it is falling apart.

Since we're doing work here anyway, was curious if anyone has done a screen door on a 4106 (or any other bus type with non rectangular door shapes)?     We'd like something so that we can leave the main door open without letting bugs in.

Any ideas, pictures or plans to share?

Looking forward to our next updating round..  by the end of the week, we'll hopefully have our new Vitrofrigo compressor fridge installed (replacing our Dometic 2-way - listed for sale in the Spare Tires section), and have some more mods done on our dual desk setup.   Little steps all the time...  amazing how many changes we've made to our bus in less than a year!

Cherie -

The only one I've seen that worked "so-so" was custom-made by the owners.

They used regular screen material purchased at a hardware store, cut it slightly over-sized to fit the door opening, and trimmed it with material similar to the edge of a towel.  It attached over the door, and rolled down for use. They used velcro on the windshield side to hold it in place, and magnets on the opposite side for easy in/out.  A couple of inch-wide straps with snaps held it rolled up for travel.

FWIW & HTH. . .

The mobile screen guys can come to the site and build you a custom door that will fit inside the frame then you buy the type hinges most use the weird looking RV type hinges and the 20 dollar plastic lock lol but they look nice

Bill Farr has a screen on 4106 but he has a pocket inside the door frame the screen folds into kinda like a accordion curtain works good has a track at the top and bottom from the marine world

I have seen things like this advertised and thought about trying it, but never did.  This link is to one called Bugoff, but I think there are others.

Lowe's and or Home Depot used to have the one that just screws over any door and you pull it down when needed and it rolls up when not. You can cut them to fit. Some assembly Required.

I too have a 4106 and I purchased a product called Magic Mesh" from my local D ;Dollar General.  They have a "as seen on TV section" and a I saw this product advertised before.  Has two 83 inch x 19 inch panels that attach via velcro to the bus.  The panels are opened and secured by 18 magnets. It has not been installed yet, but looks like it would be a perfect solution.  They also advertise it for RV use.

Hi: been awhile. How about having one of our metal working busnuts make you a frame out of alum or metal the same shape as your bus door but only about 3/8 to 1/2 thick and treat it like a regular screen door.  covering etc.  Think that's what I'm doing for our project with probably 3 hingdes and a magnetic hold shut.  Bob

Fran bought some screen type cloth, sewed a loop in the top to put a spring loaded rod through to hold it in place in the inside of the frame.  In the bottom of the screen, she sewed marbles in for weights to hold it down to the floor.  A few pieces of velcro on the windshield side to hold it in place better, and one on the passenger side to hold it close enough for the bugs out, but easy enough to open up.  The whole screen rolls up to go behind the seat when not in use.

We like it.  No bugs, cheap, and not much storage space used up.
