Are there any parts that known to come loose on a Powertech quiet RV generator with enclosure? I think it is a CSI 8 that I bought new in 2006. It sounds like something is loose when running, but I've checked everything accessible from the door and I can't find anything loose. I plan to call Powertech before I start dismantling the enclosure.
The good news is I disconnected and reconnected the regulator and now I seem to get power on every start. I'm not convinced the no power thing is fixed. On my last trip in the Fall we had to restart the generator a good four or five times every use before we got power.
I've never had anything work loose on mine. I learn the hard way, that it really likes clean filters.

Have you replaced your rear generator bearing recently?
No, I have not replaced the bearing. The sound seems to be coming from the side opposite the generator head. The generator has 616 hours on it right now.
I have not replaced the air filter, but I really should. I tried to check it last year, but the filter housing is jammed up against the side of the enclosure and I couldn't get it open.
I talked to Powertech and the tech said a likely cause could be the fan hitting the shroud. I also asked him about my no power issue and he has no idea why someone told me that unplugging and replugging the regulator would help. He said it is likely coincidence that the generator works right now. He said I probably have a bad brush, but it would require dismantling most of the enclosure to get to it.
It sounds like I might be better off pulling the generator out completely. I had to use a friend's forklift to get it in there. I'll have to see if he can help me again.

I don 't know if this will work for you but I back my 4wheeler/snowmobile trailer up to the bay get it right up against the bus with a styrofoam kid's swimming float in between to keep from scratching the bus and I use my 4 wheeler winch or a come along to pull my genet out when I need to. Slides right out and we just push it back in when I'm done.
Sounds a lot easier if you have a trailer than having someone bring a forklift by.
I have a big collapsible engine hoist you can borrow if you like as well.

I take the bus over to my friend's house when I need to use the forklift to work on the generator. He only lives about 10 miles away. The generator is 515 lbs so other methods would not be that easy. Getting it back in would be harder than getting it out, I'm not sure yet if it would really need to come out or not.
Check all the wiring connections. Our PowerTech is not the one in the quietbox, but when we had a problem with intermittant power, we found a couple loose teminals on the 120 volt wiring. Jack
