When I first read the question I thought "Why on earth would anyone want to do that?"

Then I saw the photo, and understood.

Red and chrome definitely, with comically-oversized knobs and switches - go for the full Flash Gordon effect

Go with the red and chrome. The wood is beautiful. However, I think bright red is what you are looking for.

Good Luck,

Mike

Where did you get that image of the TV?  Very cool.  If you have the capability of making something of that quality, you might very well find a market for it.  Steam Punk is a movement that only seems to be growing, and that particular piece is one that I would consider having in my home.

Here's a description of Steam Punk:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk)

I actually think this would be more an example of Retro-futurism though (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro-futurism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro-futurism))

But I totally agree with Len that there'd be a market for flat-screen TV covers like this.

Just Google Steam Punk and go to images, you'll see a thousand ideas.  I think Jeremy may be correct but in my perception, steam punk is more functional than Retro-Futurism, which seems to go more to just art rather than function.

Some examples of steam punk that appeal to me is when someone converts an antique manual typewriter to a functioning computer keyboard.

Red enamel and brushed stainless...  Slightly different effect than chrome.

Absolutely brilliant idea!  I'm with Len that you may find yourself in business making these.   I'd put the wood one in my home.  Plus it would be a fun project.
