Title: small amount 24 volt needed
Post by: robertglines1 on April 10, 2012, 05:24:33 PM
I only need a small amount of 24 volt on my new project. wipers ,defroster motors    and   a couple 24 volt control circuits(solenoids)  My ddec IV is 12 volt   Starter  12 volt   Lighting 12 volt  Alternator  12 volt .  The big fan motors (24 volt) are gone as well as all 24 volt lighting replaced with 12 volt led.  I can set up a separate small 24 volt alternator and 2 small batteries if I have to but it seems un necessary.     Bob

Bob can't you replace the wipers, blowers & solenoids w/12 V units salvaged from a truck or 12V bus?

I'd think that would be easier.
Either that or a step up transformer, but I'd prefer to have it ALL 12 V.

Would probable be smart thing to do! I don't know  what else I have missed that might require 24 volts?  Will relays work on low voltage?  Only one wiper motor.  Two defroster motors/drivers AC.  The level low relays are 12 volt.

Bob-

I needed a 24volt DC supply for powering my Webasto setup from my 12 volt house bank.

I found this  http://www.chargingchargers.com/converters/step10.html (http://www.chargingchargers.com/converters/step10.html)  and it works without a hitch.

There are greater than 10amp converters also, but priced accordingly.

Regards.

Go on ebay and search "12 24 step up" in the business & industrial section
This will find you lots of step up converters that make 24 volts out of 12
There are quite a few units between  $10 and $50 that will give you between 3 and 10 amps at 24 volts.
I like the ones built into die cast heatsinks- they are reliable and cheap enough you can buy a few spares.

BTW these guys also make the same package that will step 24 down to 12volts, for all you 24 volt bus guys that want to run 12 volt doodahs and headlights etc on your 24 volt systems without messing with vanner equalizers and all their hassles...

Thank China for neat inexpensive electronics!!!
