I have discovered that the upper door hinge on our 1948 Silversides is cracked and broken through two of the three rungs that hold the hinge together. Does anyone have an idea where I might get a replacement? I have looked in the box stores and Lowes comes close but no prize. It looks like the rungs that hold the pin is bearing loaded? Or at least that what I have found on line.
I am afraid one day the door is going to drop off on the ground if I don't get it fixed soon, any ideas?

Dave Did you not visit Gene Russells back yard while you had the power steering added to your coach. I believe he has the worlds supply of silver sides there.

Can it be welded? May require line boring and bushing afterwards, but it doesn't sound too difficult for a decent machinist.
It could probably be welded, but welding would seriously deface the surrounding paint. It also looks like it made of cast aluminum??? What ever it is , it is not magnetic.
The update on this project is, I called our good friend Gene Russel in North Carolina and he said he either had one or he would disassemble one from his stable of Silversides he has up there, and send it down to me.
What ever I do I will have to drill out the existing bolts(screws) and replace them with something. I am going to try and retain the existing threaded holes so I can just reset the new bolts(screws) back into the original holes. Hope that will work. Does anyone have any advice to offer on that?

Dave I knew that Gene would take care of you. one of the nicest guys around.
And a day with Gene is a day well spent.

Dave,
It might be a good idea to sleeve it if it is Al like the clutch/shifter bellcrank.
Dave,
First drill the hole out with a smaller drill than what size bolt that is used to anchor the door hinge the get an EASYOUT and tey to remove the remaing part of the bolt. If that doesn't work go to FASTANAL and get a HELI-COIL kit for the size bolt that is being used on the door hinge. It will have a tapping die, instalation tool and the coils. Drill out the hole to the tap size, rethread the hole with the tap and install the coils. Just be sure that hole is straight in and not at a slight angle.
I have a 67 Eagle with the original headlights and someone had messed up the cover plate holes so I used the coil kit and it worked great.
Hope this helps.
Mike
Thanks Mike that was a good tip, and with instructions that even I can follow and understand.
