The wife and I are going to look a MODEL 01 Eagle that has been converted and is owned by on of our own on here. I have ransacked the search bar...however i want a rehash of what i should be looking for...
Brakes on this model aren't up to par as to say our previous Neoplan correct?
Torsion based suspension should have at least what 2" left on the adjustment?
Rust in the Bays?
What else gents Dreamscape i know your out there :D
Additional Note: The seller is GREATLY helping us out on pricing.. so i'm willing to do a great deal more work on a nearly finished coach...
Yip, I'm here! ;)
Can you PM me who you are buying it from, or post it here if you want. Would like to know before I pass anything on. If I've seen it or know the owner, it will go along way on what I, or anyone else, can tell you. VIN# to if you can provide it.
If it has 2" on rear torsalastic rod, and it's sitting at the correct height, you won't have to worry about it unless the tubes have cracks.
Let me know.
Several other things that you need to look at are:
1. Check above the trans. for rust in the upper framework.
2. Check fender wells for rust.
3. Check up front where the spare tire goes for rust.
4. I wheels have SS covers, remove them to see if the rims are cracked.
5. Make sure ALL the lighting works on the outside(headlight, turn, clearence, brake, emg.)
6. Check fluid in radiator.
7. Check for air leaks.
The list can go on and on. Paul will be able to give you more info on the bus if you can get him the serial #.
A bus this old will have always have things that will need to be fixed. I am always fixing or changing out parts, but its all in this big game of "BUSSIN".
Just make sure ALL the important things are working, and working correctly.
Welcome to the world of EAGLES!!!!
Mike
As usual the information here is uncanny lol I'll hopefully have the Vin for you soon! Thanks gents!
Mike has given great information. Us 01 owners have to stick together! ;)
Got your photos last night. She is a pretty good looking old gal. 8)
Cracks in the tubes is not deal breaker common on Eagles, water and freezing weather causes that easy fix , 2 inches of adjustment is good but if the rubber is protruding out of the tubes they won't last long, then it will be air bag time but you can always install 05-10 rear with a little fab work worry about the front and tags, the 01 and early 05 the brakes are lousy easy fix on the rear and tags not so easy on the front fwiw
good luck
ekhedge,
Here is a spreadsheet that I put together when looking for buses to buy. It is compiled from lots of stuff on this board alone. It is in no way a complete list but it makes a good tool.
Also can be used to put a dollar amount to each area and see what the cost would be for you after the purchase price. It's in Excel form but printable. Do what you want with it...use it however it will best suit your needs. Hope it helps and good luck with the purchase.
