Title: Need Kubota V2203 head in Las Vegas, NV
Post by: Sean on March 12, 2012, 11:34:49 AM
Well, the follow-up to the overheating problem with my friend Ben's generator, discussed in this thread:
http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=22932.0 (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=22932.0)

is (drumroll, please): A cracked head.

(Crack in #2 cylinder head, between injector port and exhaust valve)

A new head is going to run north of $1,500, and it doesn't really make sense to put a brand new head on a 5,000-hour genny that he's only going to keep for another year or two.  So we are now looking for a serviceable used head for this motor.

If anyone has a line on a head for a V2203, please post here or PM me.  If we found one here in Las Vegas or maybe a day's drive like Phoenix or Bakersfield, that would be great, but we'll look anyplace and have it shipped if need be.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I have no help to offer, just sympathy. I was hoping the problem was a whole lot simpler and cheaper!

A quick search turned up several on eBay, ranging from $475 up.  Shipping might cost a few bucks, but compared to a new head...might be a quick way to go.

Separately, related to eBay, contact seller "bruce1966us" in Tennessee.  I think his number is (931) 492-0316.  I bought a Kubota V1405 from him to build a homemade generator set, and it was a nice, clean, running unit (less radiator).  He might be able to connect you with a head or even a complete replacement engine at a reasonable cost -- he's always got Kubota and Yanmar stuff laying around.  Nice guy to deal with; tell him dukegrad98 sent you.  Mine went freight due to weight, but he was very quick to pallet and ship.

Thanks for your response to my PM about Kubota generators a week or two ago as well, by the way.

Cheers, John

Go to a wrecking yard and get one from a reefer trailer (Carrier) it will be high hour range but anything in the 15,000 hr range will last him if you don't find one in Vegas I can pick you one up in Phoenix and bring it home next week end fwiw that is what happens to those without getting all the air from system that one has been hot lol
