Our plasma TV is going out and we need to buy a new TV we are leaning toward the LED vs the LCD has a brighter picture only 1 inch thick and lighter what say you guys which is better of the 2 the price is about the same
good luck
LED, is the best in my opinion of course, if its for the bus, the current draw will be less, and the heat put off by the plasma won't be a problem any longer helping on those hot days where the AC's are working overtime.......picture wise.....LED is tough to beat, and right now Samsung is the best!
LED is going to take less power. LED is still an LCD but backlit by LED's versus a fluorescent light source. LED also has better blacks and better direct sunlight visibility. If you are willing to spend the $$$'s go LED backlit :)
I bought an LED last time, a 42" LG, for home use. It's so bright it takes a bit of getting used to, then I watch one of my LCD TV's and find myself turning the brightness up to max... As noted, thinner, lighter, brighter, takes less power... all good.

Just looked at the led, nice pix! Go for it Cliff ;)
Samsung is the grooviest on the market. Just when ya think it cant git any better! :)
I went LED just for the weight since I mounted mine to a swing arm..
Picture is great.
Just a quick terminology clear up, LED and LCD are both LCD, as Mr. Bennett pointed out.
There are four types of flat panel out there:
- plasma
- CCFL backlight LCD
- LED backlight LCD
- OLED
LCD is apiece of glass in front of a light source (usually white, but can be red, green, blue LEDs now) which blocks light (subtractive) to generate pictures from the full backlight brightness. Plasma and OLED displays actually make the color directly at each pixel (additive).
I don't recommend either plasma or OLED right now due to the old issue of burn-in. EDGE-LIT LCD is very thin and generally puts out a decent picture. anything with CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent tubes) is likely to be damaged with continuous vibration. Full plane LED LCD TVs make the best picture, but they also cost a lot.

The issue of burn-in on plasma has been pretty much dealt with. You're only going to have burn-in with today's plasmas if you view the same image for long periods of time. I've had a Pioneer plasma for two years now with no burn-in problems. I even watch a lot of TV programs with the network logo on the screen with no issues.
I like plasma for home use, but LED would probably be better for a bus. I don't think anyone even makes an OLED in a large size that is even remotely affordable.
LED's and Samsung
Their the best right now. IMHO
Bought the Samsung UD32D600 internet ready LED nice sure makes the backup camera clear lots better than the plasma
thanks guys
Atta Boy! ;) :)
A while back i read about a LED tv that is about the thickness of a credit card and can be rolled up like a poster. Supposed to be coming out soon. ;D
