On my MC-5 there is a flexible metal clad line from the pressure side of the compressor to the ping tank. It looks to me like it may be starting to leak as it has some oil on it. Can i replace it with a similar sized hydraulic line or similar made a Pirtek? Is there something special about heat handling capability that a regular hydraulic hose would not work in this application?

Hydraulic hose like Pirtek won't work for that Fred needs to be the Teflon hose with the SS braiding cost you 80 to 100 bucks check out a Velvac dealer they are cheaper most of the time than a Bendix discharge hose fwiw

I have used hydraulic hose on the Courier 96 when I replaced the compressor. Worked for me. Why would it not?

The air coming out of the compressor can be very hot, for one thing. Also the air is extremely "bursty", not smooth flow of pressure. Plus the DOT and the manufacturer say to use the teflon hose.

It last for awhile JC but it is not fun trying to remove all the rubber junk from valves and lines when the Pirtek separates on the inside but we all do it our way

My bus (very different from what most of you have in many ways) has solid copper (or maybe copper-coated steel) metal tube with cooling fins on it the first 14 or so feet from the compressor. It does get very hot near the compressor.
Take the hose out and have a new hose made using the old fittings-most times the fittings are reusable. At least here in L.A., we have the Hose Man that has made hoses for me-both teflon and rubber reinforced. They usually will make the hose while you wait. Just one of the many things about dealing with old vehicles. Good Luck, TomC
I did as TomC suggested, could not use the original fittings though. So all new was the way to go, cost.. 130.00 at house of hose in Henderson ;)
My 9 had the SS braid over Teflon, had a new one made here in Wichita at our local Truck parts store. Was $45.00 with new ends about 6 months ago. A word of warning whatever you do be very carefull not to accidentally kink it when putting it back in!!! I was not so carefull and needless to say it has started leaking again in the kink, just haven't had time to make it back over to get another one made up yet.

I checked with JD at C&J bus and he said Pirtek can make what I need but to tell them it is a compressor discharge hose and that it gets very hot.
Any other thoughts guys?

We are talking about the mobile hose maker Pirtek here right I never saw one that could make a discharge line they maybe different in your area but the local guy here always try's to pass off hydraulic hose on me for a discharge line
