The space held the bus black holding tank and the bus air compresor. It is now a large area with a flat floor that I would like to install my Aquahot. I am concerned that the open area to the motor will allow heat and dirt to accumulate. Can I wall the back side of this area to separate the engine from this compartment? What would this do to the engine heat flow by any other perceived or real problems?
What make of bus are you referring to ? MCI ?
93 H series Prevost if memory serves me rite. Should be Ok as some converters located their systems there.
Sorry,
Yes, 93 H3 with Series 60.
also I have a webasto in this space that I am going to remove. It will be available in the near future.
My take on this is that if the Aquahot is brand new I would not want to put it in an area of water, dust, dirt, road grime etc. Even if you build an enclosure it needs to be vented for fresh air combustion and how are you going to get the hot and cold water lines to it ? Even with enclosures I have seen some pretty nasty Proheat units filled with all kinds of stuff. I would prefer to have it in a cargo bay. But then it's your decision, this is just my feeling on the subject.
Too much noise under the Bed for me :P.
My concerns would be keeping unit clean & dry, future access to unit as well as engine, noise level when unit is operating, and routing of the hoses. If you are comfortable with those issues, go for it. Jack
What else have people used this space for? I plan to remove the bus A/C and the old holding tanks from my 1983 Prevost and would like to use the space for something. Starting batteries? If nothing else, it wil allow easier access to tat side of the engine.

I have a Aqua Hot, Noise wise, you have to turn off any noise maker to hear it, so I guess I must be deaf, all you hear is the blower fan, Have heard comments about how loud they are, mine has a muffler on the exhaust. Maybe the secret ?
Anyway, once you have a proper Aqua Hot, you want nothing else, heats, 4 areas (thermostat controlled), plus can preheat engine, all the domestic how water you could use, also the engine heat keeps the unit hot too. So for me, it is a win win thing. Fuel burn, uses a 1/3 gph nozzle, runs seldom, just need a proper hook up design.
Cheers
Dave, interesting thought on the muffler. Not sure that AquaHot approves that as they seem to be very sensitive to back pressure. Anyone else using a muffler.
On my unit, the pump itself is really pretty noisy. Not sure the db is all that high, but the sound quality is really objectionable. My pump was not all that noisy until I had the AquaHot factory service the unit (part of a recall). It was so loud after they worked on it, I took it back and they said that it was normal.

Dave its funny you ask this because just yesterday we were looking at what we could do in that same area of our 92 H3. I thought at first I'd like my 7 drawer upright tool box there but it's too wide to clear the air cleaner so now I'm thinking about cutting the top out of the original stainless steel black tank and making it a tray for my house battery bank. That would allow me easy access to service and clean them and it would free up space where they are now which is in a bay! When I get the bus back home, first thing were doing is re-doing the water bay on drivers side so my tool box can fit on passenger side!
Oh my, hopefully one day entertainment center will go where my house bank is now!
That's what happens when you use the coach! You tend to change things you don't like to things you think you MIGHT like! :)
House batteries is also an option. I still am concerned about flying scum on batteries.
If space houses house batteries, this will make a longer run to the inverter.
Dave I'm Planning on having them enclosed so very little scum! As for the added length of cable to the inverter? Yes a little longer but to be honest, I've used my inverter twice in the last five years! My house batteries are dated 2004 and they still work although showing less run time than before!
I'm just going to do a complete re-do of all my bays and those house batteries are in the way and for what little use they get, they go to the back of the bus!
