Title: Lurkers Attention::
Post by: robertglines1 on February 08, 2012, 06:02:03 AM
I know your there!  ::) just kidding. Please jump in and share. Sometimes I feel I am pushing my way/opinions on others unwanted. And yes probably true.  I have learned so much from here and hands on that it is fun. Everyone has a special talent and if nothing else opinions.  OR just boy did I do that wrong experience.  I have seen many that were here years ago stop posting----Did you guys all die?  or just buy S&S  ;D  So  let us know if your still alive.  And for everyone else join in!   Addicted to buses!   Bob

I'm still alive.... the tax people say so!!  ;D

I'm posting mostly on the Wanderlodge board because that's what I'm working on now. I do check this board almost every day though.

I have been a lurker for quite some time now.  I enjoy reading about the successes and mistakes of those addicted to buses. Also enjoy the rebukes and wrong conclusions and strong prejudices of those who submit and provide answers to questions that often were not even asked.  But, I have some to the conclusion that while I know I could master a bus and eventually convert it to a comfortable traveling home, I will never have one.  I simply do not  and will not have the available funds it takes to purchase and maintain a bus. Oh, I could if I became an addict like many of you, but then like all addicts, the other areas of my now present life would suffer greatly.  I will continue to read and live vicariously through all of your breakdowns, fixes, successes and failures and for that I thank you all.

OK, I admit it. I am a lurker! I post here and there but honestly, you guys are so much more knowledgeable than I am, that there is nothing left for me to say.

Bob, for what it's worth, I love reading whatever you write. It's always useful information coming from someone who knows what they are talking about.
So please, keep the wisdom coming!

Here comes a dumb/left field question. Is it possible to re-power an MC9 with a Series 60 Detroit ? Can it be done? Is it worth it?
The reason I ask, is that I have so much time, money and effort invested in my bus that I never want to part with it. However, I would love to have the power that modern buses have.

YES it can be done. BUT if you think you have time $ & effort invested now, just wait until you finish the swap!
I AM fond of my buses with the 60 series engine. But if I were to do a swap into a 9 I would go with the Cummins ! Less work as far as fitting under the floor with out modifications. Several members here have gone with the Cummins swap and are very happy.   Mike Lutestanski is the one I am most familiar with. Here is a link to him here.

http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?action=profile;u=1446 (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?action=profile;u=1446)

Also Brian Diehl also did one, but his was a much more involved swap as he did use the larger more complicated N14 here is a link to him here.

http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?action=profile;u=127 (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?action=profile;u=127)

I also understand Melbo had his done by B&B Coach in Las Vegas and is very hapy with it.

I work on a local churches MCI that has a Cummins in it from the factory and they just love it. (their former MC8 8V71 was sold to "Frank" here on the board)

I have "kind of" stopped posting but still read the board everyday.

Yes I did have an L10 put into an 8.  I really like it -- no electronics on the engine and it runs like a top -- NO CLIFFORD I WON'T RACE YOU -- I get about 7 mpg when I keep it around 60-65 mph. Mike has a B500 six speed trans which might be nice but the entire swap for me was to get an engine that would not over heat and an automatic.

We spent about 4 months living full time in the bus last fall and we alway take about three or four good road trips each year.

We bump around doing an upgrade here and there just to keep the bus up to speed so with no MAJOR projects I have not had questions or that much input SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I will just keep lurking (Bob I would love to see your steam engines cut up some wood some time --- I think that would be cool )   ;)

Nice to hear from some of the quiet ones. The bus hobby to be has been like thearpy in my retirement. I enjoy the fellowship of the board and meeting bus nuts. Everyone have/has life experience to share.    Goood some of you are not lookin up from 6 foot under.     Bob

Yes Bob It is good to be on top. not 6 feet under.  The scary thing is to wake up and see two "DEVILS" standing there. You just know that you went down instead of up.

I'm still here too Bob.  ::) Still reading away and post when I feel I have something to contribute. I enjoy reading your posts too.

I does seem like there is WAY less traffic here than there was a few years ago.

I have been a "lurker" since i bought  a 4106  in 1998-read this board daily and very much admire the knowledge and the "stupid stuff".  I have changed engines -changed clutch-and have worked on almost every part of the bus----without this board and Luke  -I would be lost-will continue to be a reader .

I have found that once you start posting and commenting, it seems to help understand everything differently, or better. You can read and read and read, but the questions you want answered are not always asked by anyone else, or asked the way you would ask them, and they are never answered the way you may want them answered, had you asked a particular question in your own particular way yourself. I always cringe seeing things I wrote when I first got on a board, the goofy questions, the goofy comments. Its nice to see im not alone, lol. Also nice to see the growth in maturity, or the lack thereof. ;D

You guys are such awesome teachers that in a few short years I know it all now!!! LOL! I still keep up but not as regular as I used to be. The bus is put away for the winter and "out of sight, out of mind" for awhile. Working on the boat this winter!!  :(
