Title: picture posting from computer
Post by: robertglines1 on January 28, 2012, 06:40:11 AM
Previous owner e-mailed me bus fire pictures of my bus. I saved to computer. Can I post direct to BCM. I have tried but am doing something wrong. I can post to Photo buckett and do it that way. I can post on prevostcommunity   forum direct from computer. What am I doing wrong here?   I'm sure I am not the only one that wonders why/how/confused.  Bob

What I have to share is step by step pictures of progression of fire. The computer has whipped me. Will try to get Andy or one of the kids to help later. I do understand why so many that would like to share don't. I really get pissed off at how difficult it is.  Much easier to build a bus or fix a broken engine.     I'm going to work on bus-- much less stress.     Bob

Bob, you can post pictures here, but there is a limit to the size of the file that you can upload.  You will either have to resize the photos, or simply post a link to the photobucket page.

To resize photos, I use a very simple program:

http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/ (http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/)

It is an Open Source program that is very easy to use and you can resize many photos at one time in a batch process.  You have to select what size you want the photos to be resized to and I would choose "medium" for posting here.  The program leaves your original photo on the computer and simply adds another photo of the same name, but with the word "medium" added to the file name.

Jim, i think that what he is asking is how to post directly to an existing topic or starting a new topic on this board. I have had a few pics that i wanted to share, but even though they were sized right, all photobucket showed was links to post to yahoo, twitter, or facebook.  >:(

Also, is there a way to do it directly from your computer without having to go thru photo bucket......simple is good! ;D

The way I do it is to hit the additional options tab in the lower left of the screen, browse to the picture, and add it to the post.  Only works with pictures of a certain size, but to make that easy I set my camera to a small size so I don't have to resize.  If I do, I just crop the picture with a photo editor.

A super easy way to resize photos in Windows XP, Vista or 7 (If you have Outlook setup as an email client) is to right click the photo (you will get a long list of items), choose "send to" (you will get a list of things to send the item to) Choose mail recipient and it will ask you if you want to keep your images the same size or make them smaller.  Choose to make them smaller (you can size 800x600 and you should be fine to upload to bus conversions) and you will have an email window pop up with all the pictures in a reduced size as attachments.  Just drag and drop those images from the email to a new folder (so they don't overwrite the originals) and there you go.

Seems like a long list of directions but do it once and you'll quickly catch on.

Then click the Additional Options  and upload as Brian suggested.

Bob, did you replace the wheels?  Going to bed so don't want to look thru you previous posts to find out, but figured that the heat had to damage the wheels.

Maybe if the KNOB with the camera had employed some fire fighting assistance instead of trying to be Cecil B DeMille...

Amazing to have the pics Bob!

Anyway, it is a great case study for us busnuts.

How much fire extinguisher capacity do you have on board?

Can you deploy all of it to good effect? Does everyone, including spouses and children, had a chance to use an extinguisher?

They are cheap to recharge, should be discharged regularly, and the kids have a fun time trying them out!

No kidding, round up all your older extinguishers, get everyone out for a party, and get them to use them up, and then take them in to the local fire services company for re-charge.

You'll never know what life might be saved because you let a 5 year old actually have the experience of using an extinguisher.

I wonder, back to the bus fire pics, if a couple of 10 pounders, instead of taking pictures, in the early stages, just might have caught it in time?

How about it, from the firefighters in the crowd?

happy coaching!

The hose in the first picture didn't seem to do much good......maybe if it had a nozzle on it, it might have done better. :)

Bob, I see that you also posted the pictures on your fire thread - that ties it all together.

Since the subject of this thread is how to post a picture, I am curious about how you got the job done.  I checked and the pictures are not linked to Photobucket.  They are uploaded to this site which means that you were able to resize them.  Let us know what you used for the resize process so that we can all benefit.

A couple of the posters suggested taking the picture with the camera set to a low resolution.  We do that when we know that we will NEVER need the photo for "searching' detail.  We use the small resolution for things like ebay photos where detail is not all that important.

However, I always take as high of a resolution photo as I can and then reduce the resolution via software.  It only takes a couple of key strokes for the resize process.  I then have both a high and low resolution of the photo.  I often go back to the high resolution photo and zoom in to get some detail that I had not recalled.

A perfect example is the work I do for Pat's genealogy work.  We often run across really old family photos.  When we do, I take a high resolution photo of the old photo.  We have an old photo of a family portrait (about five family members).  With the high resolution photo, I can zoom in to get facial details.  Also with the high resolution, I can make a copy and then crop that photo to get an individual head shots of each family member.

Just much easier to leave your camera on high resolution and deal with uploading/emailing by using a simple photo resizing computer program.
