I am looking for a good running 6v92 Turbo engine for my 1981 Eagle 10. I am having some difficulty in finding an engine at a price I can afford. My bus is sitting at Choo Choo Express Garage in Rossville, GA and I would love to find one in the area. I sure would appreciate any info you can give.
Thanks!
Kevin
You can't rebuild what you have? Then you know what you got. Getting someone elses used engine is a crap shoot. Good Luck, TomC
I have a "supposedly" good running take out from a Prevost. It's a Green block. No Jakes, no alternator, no bellhousing. I robbed the fuel modulator. Otherwise it's complete. Had a gear driven 50 DN.
I got it from a very trusted source, but as stated, used is a crap shoot. Also needs a new oil pan.
I'm in western Wyoming, if you can use/want it, it's yours for $800.

He doesn't want to go there trying to stuff a Prevost engine in his Eagle
Clifford, kinda like me stuffing a tank engine in my MCI? :o ;D

Wondering what is so different about the add on items on the Provost 6V-92, Never seen a 6V-92 that was different under the added junk ?
options.
You gotta know DDC makes hundreds of different models of 6V-92, and they are all the same basic engine, They have 4 basic models if I remember, Hell, I might be loosing it too.
In my case, swapping the add-on junk between the two basically identical engines took around 200 hours, much of which was spent cleaning the old stuff... It sure can be done, it sure is easier to find one that's already close to right...

Brian, For me, no matter what you find, I would pull the pan, check bearings, bottom of liners, and throught the airbox ports, have a good look see at pistons, rings etc. That will usually give you a general idea if it is worth messing with, of course depending on price.
For me, I never installed any engine I had not gone through 100%, even the 12V got a new crank, blowers, cyl. kits, 48 exhaust valves, injectors and examine oil pump as a minimum. Of course I never had an issues on the road.
Seems having issues on the road, far from home is ot the time to expect bargin service help, seems that is when the real education begins. $$$
Just my opinion.
Any useful parts on this http://www.busnut.com/classifieds/index.php?a=2&b=786 (http://www.busnut.com/classifieds/index.php?a=2&b=786)
WOW !!
A Rebuilt 6V-92 with less than 50 miles on the rebuild, spun a bearing?that does in fact say alot about the idiot that rebuilt it.
Besides 6V-92 engines do not have the same weakness (Spinning bearings) as the 8V-92 running too light oil.
Sounds like core value might be a stretch.
FWIW
I know of one that starts, runs and drives great! And it's wrapped up in an '86 Eagle model 10!
Can be had for $7000 or less!
;D BK ;D
Kevin, not in your area but I have a 6V92 DD reliabuilt that I just took out of my 87 MCI. Runs great . 100,000 kms E mail Me if you are interested big-ger@shaw.ca.

Thanks for all the helpful advice. I have found an engine from a trusted source. It is a low mileage engine and automatic trans (90k) out of a wrecked Eagle. Eventually I will rebuild the engine that I am replacing. I have bought several buses from the company that sold me the engine and trans and I have yet to be disappointed with their integrity. This may be the time I get disappointed but I would rather buy an engine from them than have a shop I don't now much about rebuild an engine for me. I am not saying that the shop that has my bus CAN'T do it. What I AM saying is that I will have a shop I KNOW rebuild it for me. I have done some investigating about the shop and found that they are good at swaps and removal and replacement of components but an involved job such as a rebuild would be better to have done somewhere else.
The shop quoted me a price around $10k for a rebuild. Not gonna happen. I will junk the bus and part it out before I do that. I bought the low mileage engine and automatic trans (bus is 5 speed currently) for $3800. The seller was running this bus in his fleet and a driver rolled it on it's side when he was about to miss his exit. The seller had had the engine completely rebuilt shortly before this. I have bought 3 buses from this seller. Everything the seller told me about the buses was dead on and when an issue came up he stood behind each deal with service and technical support. He even replaced the radiators in an MCI that bought from him when he didn't have to. I bought each bus as-is-where-is but he stood behind each one. Like I said, I may get taken this time but I am more comfortable with his engine than I am with having mine rebuilt at a shop I am not too familiar with.
I may be crying this time next week but you live and learn. Buying a used engine is not the biggest mistake I have ever made. Buying this bus was. Buying my other Eagle (that I still have) is the next biggest mistake I have ever made. LOL! ;)
Thanks Guys!
Kevin
Kevin,
I love your signature at the bottom of your posts. It's like reading an obituary of sorts for buses :D :D :D

;D ;D ;D Thanks! I guess? ;D ;D ;D
I delivered the "new" enginne today. Everything should go together with minor problems. Famous last words, I know! ::) Anyway, since my bus was never a seated coach and has been an entertainer coach all these years the interior access hatches in the floor have been covered up! Great!!! The bays have been built in for the holding tanks, generator, and sound and stage equipment transport so the access panels under the floor are going to be nearly impossible to remove. People need to use their brains when converting one of these coaches. It's a BUS!!! At some point in time you are gonna need to have access to the goodies found underneath those hatches and panels. ::) ::) ::) I think the labor to have the engine and tranny installed will be cheaper than the labor to have the tranny cable installed. Oh well! Live and learn. Live and learn.
