My 1994 102D3 will go into gear drive and reverse and will move but will not shift from that initailly selected gear. I have only selected drive. When parking brake is disengaged, the "check tranny" light illuminates on the dash and stays on solid. When parking brake engaged, the "check tranny" light flashes four times, pauses, flashes two times and then four times and so on. I checked fluid level cold and it is ok. This is my first automatic so I am certainly out of my pay grade. Any ideas.
Always grateful for your help,
Josh
Josh,
Ouch. That doesn't sound good. I don't have my Allison book here, so I do not know what code that is throwing.
When you try to drive it, does it just rev up, and not shift? Does it sounds like it tries to shift (revs up, down revs, then revs back up), but can't? Can you select gear to and shift into 2? How far are you away from a good Allison shop that has a real computer to put on it?
Sorry, I wish I had good news for you.
God bless,
John
What kind of shift selector do you have? The six button type? Some other kind?
If it is the six button type (up, down, mode, F, N, R), then you can check your oil from up front, when it is warm. In N, hold down the up and down arrow buttons at the same time for probably 5-10 seconds. It will then start to count down, then com up with OL, Okay, for oil okay. OL LO (I think it is LO) X (x stands for so many quarts), and OL HI X.
Also, you can get your codes from that selector too.
Let us know.
John
It will go into gear and drive. It will not shift to the next gear. It does not even try. The Allison shop is 30 miles by interstate. My selector has the following:
R square that is usually black, but flashes "do not shift' in red while in gear
N blank with allison logo
D 1
3 2
I would post the pic of it but, it keeps tellin me that its too big of a file.
Josh
Josh,
I don't think your selector looks like this one, right? http://www.allisontransmission.com/servlet/DownloadFile?Dir=publications/pubs&FileToGet=SA3360EN.pdf (http://www.allisontransmission.com/servlet/DownloadFile?Dir=publications/pubs&FileToGet=SA3360EN.pdf)
http://www.allisontransmission.com/servlet/DownloadFile?Dir=publications/pubs&FileToGet=OM2157EN.pdf (http://www.allisontransmission.com/servlet/DownloadFile?Dir=publications/pubs&FileToGet=OM2157EN.pdf) But I am guessing it is the strip one on page 15. If so, I am not familiar with that one, and you will have to read through the manual.
The other thing you might try is rebooting the ECU for the tranny. Ours is on the driver side 1st bay, rear wall inside a cover. Try unplugging both of those modules (with the engine off, of course) then try driving again. See if there is any difference.
I would also try calling MCI tech support. I really doubt that you will get anywhere with them, but probably better then I can do.
If you want to post a picture you have to edit it, so it isn't so big. There are online services that do that for free. Just google picture re-sizer online. That should get you some results.
