Hi All--
I am new here abut have been lurking for a while --Great people here-
I am thinking about buying a bus to convert to toy hauler/RV-
at the moment I am looking at a 2004 INTERNATIONAL DT466 3200 - MID-BUS 24 PASSENGER -32 feet long-- the bus has 300k on it --
The bus is in good condition -
I am 57 yrs old have Zero traffic tickets in my life and back in the 1980s
I had a CLD and drove 18 wheelers for 2 years --
I own a home and live in Texas--
I know this is a hard question to answer but I need to have a Ball Park
estimate of what insurance would cost me -- and what companies
will insure a conversion bus like this--
Also am I going to need a CLD to drive this bus??
I spoke with the DMV and they told me that I will just need to
pass the driving test if the GVW is not over 26001 pounds-
I am not sure what the GVW of this bus is ??
plan on driving less than 5 to 7k per year-
Also are these Good busses?? Do they ride good-
I am willing to pay extra for a bus that rides smooth --
The bus will be caring 4 motorcycles and 3 people -1000lbs of bikes-
The interior is going be minimalist - and nothing fancy or to heavy-
Likely have a 3 to 4 k generator and 100 gallon water supply -
Do you have any idea what a bus like this will get as far as MPG??
Ball park figures is all I am looking for ---
Thanks for your help and time --Jay--
Here is a site that will have the answers you are looking for.

lots of the school busses use gmac insurance, but you cant purchase online, you gotta call them and talk to a representative.
I think those busses get 9 -10 mpg or so since its the 466.
They drive fine, and are built on a truck frame, so you can do whatever you wish with the body. On the Skoolie.net in the photo section, there are several of these busses and there is a lot of good pictures of how conversions were done.
I assume this is a dog nose bus, so they are pretty cheap for repairs, and there is a huge amount of parts out there.
Over the past 30 or so years, i have had both school busses and coaches, and have been happy with the school busses even though the did not air ride, like the bus i have now.
Hope this helps.
There are so many variables that the only way to get a handle on insurance cost is get on the phone and find a Co. that will insure you and then get a quote. Starting with your own agent is the best place. HTH JIm 0311
Expensive, but doable. They insured my former Crown project. About the only other thing I can think of is that 300K MAY be a lot of mileage for that platform. Also try going thru your local friendly, knowledgeable, fair, honest agent. Sometimes that can help. HB of CJ (old coot) :)
