Ok folks....I have 80 Eagle 8V71. Over the past couple months, I would not shut down when I turned off the key. Had to put in gear and dead kill it. Read on some of the posts that the skinner valves likely not operating properly. Some suggested that the solenoid controlling the skinner valves sometimes have bad grounds.
Today, I cleaned and reattached all the solenoid ground wires, as well as the hot wires. Shot some cleaner into the lines from the solenoids to the skinner valves. Tightened everything up. Started the bus, and was letting it run. When the "Low Air" light went off, I hit the High Idle switch to let it work out a bit. The high idle kicked in, and after about 3-5 seconds, the engine died, and now will not start at all. Almost ran the batteries down trying to restart, but it won't catch up. Sounds like it is not getting any fuel.
What have I done wrong? I think I probably need to replace the two solenoids that control the skinners, and probably the skinners themselves. Are these parts that you can get at a local Truck shop, or do these have to come from some other source.
Can you tell me what the parts are called, part numbers, etc?
Any help you all can give would be much appreciated. Need to get the bus back on the road by next weekend (the 15th).
Thanks for all your help.
Buddy take the line off going from the solenoid valve on the back of the firewall should have a least 2 there find the one going to the shut down on top of the governor there will be 2 Parker air cylinders one is for the holding of the throttle tied into the fast idle with a 1/4 inch line and tee the other is shutdown.
If you have air coming from that line when running the skinner as it is called here is bad or you wired it backwards
good luck
Clifford, sounds like the same deal i had in NM last year, the shutdown valve was not coming back all the way , so it didnt get fuel, i had the air line all full of wd, from trying to clean the valve ?
