OK got a call this morning that Bus would NOT go into reverse! I went over to check it out and found that it Was not going into reverse it seemed the gear shiftwas off. When in the Reverse position it was in Neutral, in Neutral position your in drive it like everything is off one gear position. We don't understand how something like this could happen when the bus has been parked
bus being parked for a long time is probably a clue...me wouldth check the action at tranny...
Several things pop in my mind:
1) something went loose and shifted.
2) somebody tried to tow the bus and loosened the gearshift parts to take it out of gear into neutral from the outside.
3) Check for broken motor and transmission mounts.
4) something terminally worn.
The Bus didn't sit for long 4 to 5 day tops. It goes into drive and drives great it just like I said the shifter is off a positions.
Nothing in your profile says what kind of bus or trans/shifter. Will assume 740 with shift tower next to driver in center of bus. Sometimes in cold weather my adjustment is so sensitive it seems like that. I have moved the adjustment on the trans a few threads at a time and it has gotten better. I found out during trouble shooting that the plate that is notched inside the shifter (to hold shifter in position for gear) had a bolt come loose and dropped out of position. You can take the side plate off the inside of the shifter tower and check that.
