Title: Removable Dining table idea
Post by: Dave Siegel on December 23, 2011, 05:17:58 AM
When we were putting together our Silversides Jan and I decided that two sofas were more important than one sofa and a dining table. (We both like to lay back and watch TV and felt we could use snack tables to eat on) Now I am about to re-do the flooring in our bus and I have been thinking about a table that could be used with our sofas and be multi-purpose, here's what I have in mind:

Our sofas face each other, since our bus is only 93" wide we do not have a lot of space between the sofas. So I was thinking about a recessed socket in the floor that would hold a 3"? chrome pipe that would be the table leg. The table top could be 15" wide by 30" or so long with two rounded wings (10" at the apex?) on either side with a slide under neath that would support the enlarged top for dining. When dinner was done and it was time for TV you could pull up the taller tube
( store it safely) and insert a shorter tube and then then let down the hinged sides and the table could now become a coffee/cocktail table. We then could lay back, watch our favorite show and have a couple of adult bevies.

I know there are some really great engineers out there so I ask, is this a viable idea? Has anyone done anything like this? Should I use one tube or two? I am open to any and all ideas at this point except for installing a dining booth.

Thanks in advance.

What you're describing sounds like a standard motorhome / boat set-up, and you can buy the parts easily enough. The image below came up when I did a quick Google just now; the strange-looking black thing in the photo (part 'B') is a folding base for the table so you can take it from the bus and use it outside.

I have a plans for a similar table arrangement in my bus, except that, rather than having removable legs of different lengths, I will arrange the leg to electrically rise and fall through the floor, courtesy of a linear actuator in the bay below.

Thanks Jeremy those parts look great (we don't need the table legs for outside we have plenty of outside seating and tables) but I do like the deluxe look of the other components. Would you mind sharing where those parts come from? They look far better than the parts available at Camping World.

Hi Dave

That photo came from here: http://www.riverswayleisure.co.uk/acatalog/info_1029720.html (http://www.riverswayleisure.co.uk/acatalog/info_1029720.html)

Oddly that page is displaying a 'Sold Out' icon, but the page is still allowing you to order the parts. In any case, I'm sure lots of retailers have the same or equivalent items for sale. 'Fiamma' incidentally is an Italian motorhome manufacturer
