Well over the weekend we took our bus on its first "long" journey to see how reliable it was and what changes we need to make.
We drove from Houston, TX to Corpus Christi, TX (about 220 miles each way) and had no issues and going 65-70 mph. The oil pressure was 50 psi and the water temp stayed at 160 deg. and averged 8 mpg.
The weather was decent where we didn't need a/c nor heat.
This was a MCI 8.
The first trip is always a little nerve racking. You never know if you are going to have difficulties or not. Congrats on an event free trip, hope the next is just as good.
nice first trip! :) Am I the only one getting 4 mpg? Or might it be my 80 mph runs. :-\
wow, 8mpg in an mc8. Must be really light, or it was all down hill. ;D
Scotty, even as heavily loaded as I am, and my towed used to be a full size diesel truck weighing in at 8200#, I would average about 5.8 to 6.5 mpg. If your only getting 4 something may be amis.
I just calculated my fuel for the last year. 7495.5 miles, burned 1211.723 gallons of diesel. That's 6.18 mpg. I'm not going to calculate the fuel cost, it might make me cry.
Yep
Good fuel milage? Mine not so good TMC-9.
John
You might want to check that water temp. Seems low. I keep 180 degree t stats in my 6v92 and she never goes below 175 while on the road. I don't think you can heat the coach with 160 degree water.

I'm sure something needs work somewhere. Could also be that I'm running a 50-70% waste motor oil blend. That just might have something to do with it. But, on the bright side, the fuel is free. :P

If it were free I wouldn't care if my buses only got 2 miles per gal.

Congratulations on an uneventful "first trip"!
Not all of us were so lucky, but now all that's just an experience and a good campfire story...... ::)
Sounds like you have a winner, enjoy it and use it often.

Great to here of a nice first trip. MPG? if you own a bus? Why even think about it. It's only going to hurt. Mary Xmas to all and to all a good night.
