Here's one of the many reason we are dis-enchanted with living here is southwest Florida. I was reading a post from here that was a couple of weeks ago, saying that used batteries bring as much as $50 to recycle or salvage them. I was very encouraged with that because I need two batteries for our bus and I thought that could be a way of almost getting one for free. Well I just called several recyclers and here are the recycling prices they quoted me: .05 cents a pound. I don't know what an 8D battery weighs but if they are 50 pounds then that equates to $2.50, if an 8D goes as high as 100 pounds that would be a whopping $5.00.
With that money I can buy a couple of batteries for my flashlight.
This is so typical of the gouging that goes on here, and why we want out so badly. Anyone want to adopt us. I am a good cook and Jan cleans teeth like a pro.

We get .50 a pound here in the Az valley was down to .48 on Wed
good luck
I know from experience that you pay and pay and pay for the privilege to live in Florida.
You get paid less at your job.
And you Pay more when you buy anything.
I think the only place worse is Hawaii...
You may want to wait till your next trip out of Florida to change out your batteries...
.
I've lived in Florida since the mid sixties. As far back as then I was told that in Florida, you take half your pay in sunshine. Having left the New England winters, it was a deal I could live with.
Looks to me the scrap dealers in your part of Florida may be communicating, I'd look into opening a scrap yard. :)Someone is making a lot of money, I have nothing against a person making money just do it legal.
I just called the only scrap dealer listed in phone book in my home town of 13,000 was quoted 25 cents a pound, called the 3 dealers listed in a town about the same size 50 miles away the top price quoted to me was 10 cents a pound. It would seem to me the more dealers in an area ( more competition for your scrap) the higher the price would be but that was not what I found here.

The longer I live in FL the less I like it! I just said goodby to a friend that has been here since 86, said they cannot take it anymore and moving to NC. Better wages, lower cost of living.
IF scrap in FL is so low, why is everything metal that is not nailed down being stolen? JIm
We get $1.00 per battery here in southeast Texas.
Dave if your getting fifty cents a pound then a 50# battery will bring $25.00 not $2.50
And a 100# one will bring $50.00 not $5.
50 100
X.5 X.5
$25.00 $50.00

The guys do alright paying .05 a lb for lead spot on lead today is 0.8989 a lb so at .48 today in AZ they still make 41 cents not bad huh

Never fear John BK, is laughing too
good luck
of course after rereading his post he is correct @ .50 per pound......... i thought it was flashback from all those "Chicken Lights"
His math is spot on! But the price of cores is $0.05, five cents not $0.50, fifty cents.
So if some one in SW FL filled up their bays with battery cores and took them to SE TX could they make a profit? JIm
Our charter bus company deals with a battery company in Bonita Springs, and they just picked up a bunch of 8D cores, think they paid $48 per battery. I do know they told me cores are going down the first of the year, but also new batteries are coming down.
Whoops I made a boo boo! I mis-read that as fifty cents a pound not 5 cents. MY BAD!
