Title: Temp Gauge Wire Spec ??
Post by: Gary '79 5C on December 14, 2011, 12:50:24 AM
I need to replace the wire to the engine temp gauge as it is cracked and failing. During a long drive, I can count on the temp indication becoming erratic and nearly going to zero. Then later back to 175deg. First time I stopped 3X to check the rear gauge.

My question is what type of wire should I use ???     I was planning on THHN #14 Cu stranded.

Thoughts & thanks in advance.

Gary

P.S. For what it is worth, just got back from Orlando, 2000 troublefree miles, great weather, great vacation.

The original wiring for that sensor is 16ga copper stranded, fwiw, I looked in the schematic.  I would pick something vibration and heat resistant if you are splurging, but almost anything stranded will do fine.

THHN stranded will work but will be stiffer than automotive wire (fewer strands of larger diameter).  Jack
