Wondering if Navarros Paint shop in Algodones MX is still painting buses and if they are still competitive? Anyone on the board used Navarro's recently or know of an alternative.
Of course I'm trying to get the bus painted as reasonably as I can. I know a few years ago a few bus folks liked their work and price.
Phil
I understand that things have changed,, the old prices were around 4K, you could live in the coach during the prep stages, and pay when satisfied.. Now the prices are around 6k and up,, you can't stay in it,.,and all the money up front.>>>Dan
I have a friend here paid him 8 grand up front for 3 colors and it is a crappy job and Navarros told him tough he wasn't going to do anything about it
Check with Fleet Painting in Phoenix they do a good job at a reasonable price, Premier Coach in El Mirage does excellent work at a good prices they do Arrow Stage Line bus painting
good luck
Here in Houston (and I'm sure other cities) there are vehicle wrap businesses that have estimated that to do a wrap of a bus would cost around 2-3k if you have your own artwork.
Much better price and if you get tired of the scheme you can just peel it off...they say it can last several years and if you get some nice artwork it can look like a "custom" paint job.
there must be more than one paint shop south of the border, and there must be someone who wants the business. I have seen plenty of well painted buses in MX so I know it can done. I would never pay before the job was done....I've had paint shops mess up way too much for me give them money in advance.
oh BTW aren't we supposed to BUY AMERICAN. 'round here you might get flack for that, not from me though, everyone needs the work as far as i'm concerned.
They were painting RVs on the beach at Puerto Peñasco a couple winters ago when we were there with Mel & Billie. I don't know jack **it about painting vehicles but there was a guy there with another Bruce conversion who claimed to own a bodyshop in BC. He seemed to think they were doing a pretty decent job.
Actually, my curiosity of MX was only that, just curiosity. I'd have a lot of anxiousness about taking the bus to MX.
The bus is at a friend of mine's place in Apache Junction and I'm headed down there as we type. Going to drive the bus from his place over to a shop in Chandler for and eyes-on estimate from Arizona Truck and Coach ( might be close on the name) .
Clifford: Got an estimate from Barry at Fleet Painting - Looks reasonable so far.
PS-. On the MX thing.-- It's HARD to only 'Buy American' - But I'm trying !
A&M Graphics in Mesa is very good with vehicle wraps 602 252 3214. Tell Andrew Jim from Tucson sent you & he will give you a good price. I know they do good work.
Jim
When we were back at Puerto Peñasco I had some parts of the bus touched up by them. They came out pretty good.
I don't remember what I spent but it was cheap enough and they had just finished doing another truck conversion so I had something to look at to see what to expect.

Can highly recommend Xtreme paint & graphics if your looking for a first class high end paint job, this is not for the cheap & tachy type.
They are one of the Prevost accepted shops for body mods, repair and paint plus their ability seems to be unlimited, not cheap, but very above average. Had mine done there and very pleased.

Mike Wilson was the go to guy for custom painting on Prevost and high end coaches his work was AAA IMO I heard he sold out to some Marathon and Country Coach Prevost painters
good luck

Also you can run the wrap over the windows for added privacy. Looks solid from the outside but see-through from inside.
When you are getting quotes for paint jobs ask the painters about the materials they intend to use. Quality paint can be very expensive and it makes a big difference on how long it will last. I restore antique tractors. I can go to the farm store (TSC) and get a gallon of IH red for $35.00. A gallon of quality automotive/fleet paint will cost more then 10 times more. The TSC paint will be chalky and pint in a year or so. My old IH has had PPG Delstar on it for over 15 years and the paint is still in very good shape. BTW this tractor is not a trailer queen. It has spent time outside and I use it whenever I can think of an excuse to. Ask you painter about the products he will use and do some research.
Yep the price of good paint is serious in price lol I bought a qt of ChromaFlair without asking the price first it almost gave me the big one
good luck
I have been talking to Mike Wilson to repaint my bus and yes he is still in business. They apparently have a new owner, but it appears Mike is still in charge. If I can't find a painter around the Phoenix area I will have Mike paint it.
Don
I repaing heavy equipment, have painted hundreds of bobcats, etc, and have painted 8 coaches. andyg was right when he stated that you can go to the farm stores or equipment dealers and sometimes the paint is a lot cheaper, but it's a premix of course. Last coach i painted i used industrial enamel which was cheap, had it blended to right color, and clear coated it. That was 8 yrs ago and it still looks very good.
I would be interested in finding out which companies sell the full graphic wraps. I assume the instillation would be about the same as the huge decals on some of the larger equipment... has to be done exactly right ... mostly because they are expensive...not to mention refinishing the paint if you screw one up...

I've had full-colour graphics printed on adhesive vinyl several times - there's plenty of places that have the large-format printers to do it nowadays, and it's not particularly expensive. The difficulty is not the printing as such, but creating the source artwork for the design you want printed. Theoretically it's no different to producing artwork for (say) regular printed leaflets, which you can do on any PC with Photoshop or whatever. But things get much more tricky when the artwork is to be blown-up to very large sizes - as you can imagine this really means that all the source artwork needs to be in vector format for a start, and also I think just the planning how everything is going to work and how all the panels are going to line-up etc would become very difficult.
I haven't made any decisions about my bus yet, but if I wanted vinyl graphics I would probably plan a graphic scheme that could be done with cut vinyl (ie. solid colours) combined with discrete area of printed vinyl (ie. full colour), with the printed bits being done at the same vinyl poster / exhibition-stand printing place I have used before. With this approach and some intelligent planning I think you could have a very impressive - and very expensive-looking - 'all over' graphic scheme. But a true 'all over' scheme - where the whole bus is covered in printed panels, which all join together precisely so the design continues across all of them - should probably be left to the professional vehicle wrappers, with their expertise and specialist software.

as for quality paint versus not.. that is very true.
I am in the middle of painting my bus.. I have only painted the back of bus with solid black and the paint alone just for that area is $200.. I still need to paint the front and the sides.. so if you use a good quality painter they will have over $1000 in paint and if you do more then one color the paint cost will probably go up and the prep time will also.. there is a lot of taping involved when doing more then one color
took me 2 days of sanding to get the rear ready for paint, and about 1hr just in taping it off.

I just had my coach painted by the Chrome Mofia shop in Joplin, MO. The paint alone for 6 colors was $2200. The labor to do the prep, painting, etc was another $15K. The coach looks very nice but not outstanding. Joe, the shop manager said , if "you want manufacture quality, I get $25K". I didn't pony up for $25K. The paint he got was all Dupont, custom mixed in O'Reilly's shop there in Joplin, so not some high powered paint store. All the paint is metal flake as well. I had the design already planned and designed by my son on autocad software so there was no expense for that. I had already picked out all the colors from looking at paint swatches online and getting car/pickup brochures from local dealers. I had gotten a quote from Xtreme of $17-25K, so I didn't see the need to drive all the way there when I was 1 hour away from the Mafia shop.

I saw a few paint jobs from Marathons Prevost paint dept for 50 grand I thought 8 grand would have been a good price lol
Is there a chance you could put a pic up so we can see the paint job?
Thanks
