We had a dozen military Freightliner 3 axle trucks come in today for service. They have Series 60's (military is exempt from smog laws) with Allison 4000 series transmissions. They have a giant EMP Power 450 brushless air cooled (no oil lines) alternator rated at 450amps @ 28vdc-that's 12,600 watts! I don't know how much they are, but I can only imagine they're expensive. But-it is military. Good Luck, TomC
I could not find a price online, Tom, but New Flyer seems to be selling it out of their parts operation. So if anyone is curious I would guess they could call New Flyer. Thanks for the pointer -- we will look into one of these for our boat.

It should be a little cheaper than the Niehoff 28 volt C803D 500 amps 325 at idle the C803D cost a little over 4 grand last year
good luck

Spendy lil bugger.
That's an auction for a new unit, and I was quoted a fair bit more than that for a new 50-DN. Used reman 50 DN's seem to be about half that or a little less, depending on core charge and who is the rebuilder. It's air cooled, and the majority of the 50 DN's you are going to see are going to be oil-cooled. It's also belt drive, which is an issue for some. Nice to see a real alternative, though!

If you have a 50DN that's gear driven, you're sort of stuck with that-unless you have the room to create a belt drive where the gear drive was. These alternators are aimed at Series 60 & 50 engines (both the same in the front). And also any other engine using the belt drive version of the 50DN. Nice to see an updated alternator. Good Luck, TomC
Interesting that even our Government buy these from Bulgaria for our military not the US.
Dave ::) ??? >:(
On my Series 60 I dumped my 50DN and went with a C802 Niehoff (450 amps at 28v). I bought two units keeping one as a spare. The Niehoffs are large and heavy they dwarf the 50DN. I have one in the shop right now getting setup for a Balmar regulator.
Just ran the price of the 450amp-would you believe $4200.00? Good Luck, TomC
