Hi Folks. I am building a barn and have a chance to buy an overhead door for the bus, but I need to act FAST. I can't get to the bus to measure. Do any of you who have a mc-9 with roof air cond. units happen to know the true height of your bus? Thanks
Don
Hi Don -
There actually was already a thread about this; this has the actual outside height at 132 inches (11' if I can add correctly).

Hope that helps,

While the stock height (according to Coach Information Network) is 10'-10", roof airs will add a bit to that.
If you can, go with a 14' high door. You never know what the future holds. 8)
Besides, some doors work better if you don't have to open them all the way.

And some of them have hinges, levers, etc. that hang down in places so that they don't really have the clearance that they advertise. DAMHIK.
Considering that most over the road trucks are at 13'6", a 14ft door would be prudent. Good Luck, TomC
My MC9 has an old style sat dome on top and I'm 12' 4". (22.5 tires)

Thanks for all the replies. I'm waiting to see if the seller can make a 13' door; sale price was for a 12x12.

I was faced with the same issue. But since my bus is 13'6", I had no choice but to go with a 14' door. I'm always being asked by tractor trailer companies if I'll lease my garage to them on short-term/medium-term/long-term basis. Of course, that's not practical but when I get too old for this foolishness, I should never have any problem getting my money out of it.
How 'bout digging a trench (or two) at the entrance door. If the mule's too tall and his ears hit, dig the shed floor deeper. I'm just sayin'...

If you have level low--- no problem. measure your coach. I put my 8 with roof warts in 12 ft doors for years. I have prevost that go in same 12 ft doors now. But I don't use roof air any more.My choice. Bob. PS simple 2by 6 inch bolted across bottom = 12ft 6 inch door. just install rest of door higher.
Re-sale will be harmed if you put in a door too short.
And, as noted, you tie your hands for future options, or accommodating a max legal height vehicle, for whatever reason you can't think of now, but will kick yourself for in the future.
Pennies now, many dollars later.
happy coaching!

I have 12 foot overhead doors and while my current bus fits with 3" to spare; i think 12 is too short. As has already been said you are limiting your options. At the time I thought 12 was plenty for anything. Doh!

I have built two bus shops in my life and I can tell ya, 14X14 doors are the way to go. Will serve the trucking industry well also. If you have lifts, you need about 19' vertical inside the shop, plus consider overhead door clearance vs roll up, possible forklift clearance in the future, etc. Costs very little more to build it for possible future uses.
