Title: Detroit Diesel Fast Idle Buffer Switch

I am in need of a Jake Fast Idle Buffer Switch for my 1983 MC9 with an 8V71.  Any leads would be appreciated.

Don Fairchild has a couple of used ones give him a call I have 2 but have unable to buy parts for the things,me I wouldn't worry about a fast idle pay 165 bucks and buy the regular from DD
FWIW you can buy a King Cruise Control  with the fast idle option 200 bucks cheaper than the Jake fast idle if you can find the fast idle

Or you might be able to get one from Sam Caylor, Caylor Supply in Rantoul, KS.  He regularly kills a lot of MCI's.  Fast idle really not needed unless you still have OEM air conditioning.

The last time I priced a fast idle Jake switch, it was in excess of $500. I like Clifford's idea of using the cruise control if you feel a need for fast idle.

I do use the fast idle as I still have factory air...

The cruise control is how the RPM is advanced in all the new engines.

FWIW, typically, turn on Cruise switch, and then holding the Set/Resume switch in whichever position, the rpm will rise. Let go when it as the speed of your liking. Some, a tap of the switch will engage a programmed rpm for one, and a higher for the other. Some, you may also use a combination of the throttle pedal and the cruise switches, as if you were out on the road.

Using cruise instead of the old mechanical fast idle gives you the choice as to how fast or slow to spin it.

For instance, just fast enough to put the oil pressure where you'd like it, just fast enough to get the voltage you'd like, just fast enough to improve air compressor performance for building air, just fast enough to compromise the noise of the engine versus your other needs.

A great way to work around the expensive Buffer switch.

With the King Cruise Control on a mechanical 6V92TA can you still use the cable type accelerator or do you need to go air or electric?
