OK, New memo just out the co-pilot has authorized the purchase of parts to convert the steering from Power-assist to a Sheppard or some other box.
Now, appealing to the collective knowledge of the board. If you have converted a 4104 to Sheppard or some other box, please tell me what all I will need and where to get it.

Hard headed Ken is the best for info on this subject. He has done one and He knows more about the front axle and the steering box under HUGGY than I do.
He a great guy and knows about gm's especially 4104's.

I could use the same information please.
John,
John,
You'll have to use the Sheppard box that mounts on the axle, in place of the original Ross box. Luke at US Coach would be a good guy to talk to. Nimco shows them here: http://www.nimcobus.com/catalog/gmc_page1.shtml. (http://www.nimcobus.com/catalog/gmc_page1.shtml.) That might be one place to start.
You'll also need to change the bevel gear at the bottom of the steering column, as the original turns in the opposite direction needed. If you don't, when you turn the wheel to the right, the bus will turn left. Makes for some interesting driving.
We did one at Ray Cox's shop a few years ago and it was easier to just swap out the whole column for one from a 4106. As I recall, we did have to modify the length of the propeller shafts a little and you'll need new hoses to the steering gear.
If you decide to go this route, I have a 4106 column with the bevel gear that I've been saving for someone who wanted to do this conversion. In fact, I'm going to Lincolnton and Augusta for Thanksgiving. I could bring it with me and possibly swing by your place if you're going to be around.

Wild Bob,
Check you messages.....
Stop by anyway. We are about 3 miles from Dearing.
I have changed 4 ps boxes on 04s never had to change steering gears The 04 box stands alone it is oposite other GMs you will have to change the pump it is worth the work, good luck.
We put a Sheppard box on a 4106 years ago and if I remember correctly we got it from Mohawk or Kirks Automotive.
