What is the least expensive way to read codes from this system? Have a DDEC IV in new project. Have no way to read codes now. I'm at a complete loss here. Bob

I believe unless the system has been changed Prevost has a way to flash the codes. I am not up on all the ways that it can be done, but this guy can answer the question:

On my previous coach there was a multi pin connector and on that coach to flahs active codes I just had to jumper between two of the pins. I have a reader so I haven't bothered to figure out how to read them on mine. You also might try to pull oup the manual for your coach through this link:

Once you are in the correct manual for your coach it may have information for flashing the codes. A search of the internet gives you the listing of and meaning of codes.
Bar none, the cheapest way to read codes from a DDEC is to flash them out on the CEL. Works on every DDEC model.
If you don't have a switch to do this, you just need to take a paperclip and short the proper pair of pins on the diagnostic connector. Which two pins depends on which style of connector you have, but it is all documented in the DDEC troubleshooting manual. This last item is a must-have, because without it the codes are not as useful as they could be. Available from any Detroit distributor.
If you post a photo of your diagnostic connector I can tell you which pins to short to flash the codes.

Sean,is right but a hand held or software is the way to go you can do some programing and erase the codes with those and get software for your transmission will save you a bunch of grief down the line,
You will come across codes that will not flash on a DDEC IV regardless of what people say
The old DDEC 1 and 11 are simple the 111 up are a little different buy you a held held there are others beside ProLink I like the software on a Laptop
Sounds like some class room time/one on one time for me. At least I can ask a question now. I understand the code readers on cars. I have the code list for the DDEC. and sounds like I can get the info the same way as the auto set up(across two pins)and read code on lights. Goal is to get plug in device like I have for auto use to use on car. The $1000 plus scares me. I know this is cheap compared to shop charges. So if it is to be I don't want to spend the money more than once! Not intrested in jacking horsepower up or changing things. Will leave that computer stuff to the new generation. Just want to get to the next stop and meet new friends. Bob
If you just want to read I would contact Jim Sheppard. He sells the silverleaf system that will hook to a pc. I mounted a small touch screen on my dash and use it to monitor everything on my engine. It will pull up the code for CE, and SE also. For the money a slick way to go!!

I also have the Nexiq usb, but it requires a lot more software. It can reprogram certian parameters though.It is also a lotttttt more $$$$$$
You will own a reader or software before you are finshed lol fwiw I use a OBD2 to read the DDEC 1 works like a charm once you get past it adding the 1 between the numbers of the codes

Robert a Silverleaf is the way to go to kill a whole bunch of birds with one stone for desplaying data and codes but you can not reconfigure engine parameters with one. If that does not suit you I recommend the CD. This is Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link, Version 3.11 (DDEC IV) or Version 4.20 (DDEC V). This will open up a whole new world for you, engine configuration changes, fault codes, driver reports, on and on. Connect at the data plug in the bus to your computer via a USB cable and interface and you're good to go. The ProLink is fine but the CD's give you a lot more information and you can print it out. Only used the ProLinks on DDEC II and you have to have a DDEC II cartridge. You should be able to find a used CD on ebay or somewhere. Or if you have a friendly mechanic talk him into burning a disc for you. Default passcodes on the discs are usually four zeros (OOOO).
Boomer, I tried burning my Detroit software not the DDDL but a full blown set for John 316 and got a warning it would self destruct sounded like Mission Impossible so I stopped if knew how to burn one old BOB would have it .
I have a extra set but they are going to another guy I don't care for the proLink either software is the way to go you can work with that stuff LOL

I burned a copy of Version 3.11 without a warning, of course it was registered to me. Didn't try it after that though.
I have never bought anything from these people but know of some that have and are happy www.autocd.com (http://www.autocd.com) I am thinking they are offshore Bob can buy the 6.46 version of the DDDL for 150 bucks and that is what he needs for his DDEC IV my problem is I don't know how the site works,they want to much info for me lol
