Title: Need help getting an 03 XL2 LeMirage windshield
Post by: John316 on November 14, 2011, 03:48:52 AM
We are going to help some friends out and help them install a new driver windshield. Problem is, I am having trouble tracking that the right part number down.

Prevost parts says the windshield is a 300387 (going from the vin). That windshield is $600 (I am used to our MCI windshields $175 delivered). However, the new part number for a windshield is 300476 (if I remember correctly, it might be a 475) for $420. Prevost still sells both part #s. However, nobody can tell me what is different between the two. In talking with a guy at Translite, he said that his 387# crossed to the 476#. The 03 XL2 was right at the time that they transitioned between the part #s.

Can anybody give me any ideas as to if the 476 would work? I really want it to, but I also don't want the wrong one.

This Prevost stuff is not my thing. I am used to our DL3 being simple...LOL

Thanks,

John

There was a change in the windshields, but I cannot remember exactly what it was. I am not sure if they are interchangeable.

william.jensen@volvo.com is the best guy to talk to because he is intimate with the changes over time and can tell you what you need to know. I also suggest you go to the Prevost Car web site and look at the webinar they have for windshield installation information.

The rivet coach (XL and XLV coaches) have $130 to $175 windshields depending on if they are on sale or not. But the glued coaches have the big buck windshields

Thanks gents.

First off, you guys have me scared. When I looked at their coach it looked like it installed just like ours. A rubber gasket (like an U channel) that the glass fits in. Then the lock strip goes in the outside. We have done our quite a few times, and with plenty of soap, and slow moving, it isn't that hard. But if it is glued, I ain't touching it.

I will email William and see what he has to say. Thanks for the info on the windshield install I will look up that webinar.

This has the split glass windshield. The driverside is the one that is cracked.

Clifford, I will check back with Coach Glass. They said that they had discontinued the 387.

Thanks a lot of the help!

John

I just wanted to update this, real quick.

Turns out that the newer glass fit those older coaches. Two different sources told me that, so I picked up an actual Prevost windshield from a guy in town.

The webinar was invaluable. I actually ordered the vegetoil that they suggested ($50 for a little tub of the stuff). We liked that lube a lot. It is now with our windshield kit.

Start to finish it took two hours, since we went really slow. We backed a rollback wrecker up to the bus, so we had a nice platform to work from. We also didn't have a lockstrip install tool, so that took way longer then it should have.

Once again, thank you for the help.

Thanks, Clifford. LOL, now you tell me. Prevost is really proud of their goo, that is for sure. I will pick up that pipe stuff next time we need it.

Bill, great resource. Thanks.
