Title: Shopping and Pricing
Post by: Joe Camper on November 05, 2011, 03:12:47 PM
2 unrelated things.

First the best price on a new 12 volt 2000 or 3000w inverter

I found camping world freedom Xantrex 2000w12v for 900 with 1 yr warranty and 3000w 12v for 1500.

Can I do better? They have to be 12 volt inverter/chargers 2000 to 3000w and with warranty. Any help would be appreciated

and then.....

Where can I find A DECENT, REASONABLY priced macerater toilet for a bus. I will not even tell you the prices are on what I have been finding.

It can be a/c or d/c or air......... whatever.

Thanks in advance

The toilet is not directly over the tank.

Found this but do not know if it is a/c or d/c not that it matters. The price is best so far.

Anybody know of this manufacturer

I have a Xantrex 2000 puresine inverter/charger, it is all white and says freedom, but has no monitor avaiable and the remote on /reset/off switch does not work. When I can find a Magnum 2000/12 pure sine with remote reasonable I will replace the zantrex.
The xantrex sometimes faults, sometimes auto inverts or needs start button pushed to work either invert or pass through.

The Xantrex I am having issues with has a charger that kicks off intermittent when a/c power is present and That should never happen. I believe that is what is happening to you too we are just defining the failure differently.

Depending on how frequently it happens and how long it remains off till it either resets itself or is noticed and reset dictates where the battery voltages go.

Can the old failing inverter be fixed or is it throw away. Ralph have you found any sources for better prices on the inverter than I have linked to?

Still no help with the macerater toilet uh??

Dern things are expensive ain't they. I guess the one I found for around 600 is the winner. My raritan is 1200 and I have heard some of the headhunters are 2000+

Still would be nice to either confirm or rebutt what I am finding about these type toilets with some input here. I know most do not use these I will assume nobody has anything to add??

HOw far is your toilet from the tank?

How far is your toilet off from the tank?  My toilet is on the right side of the bus and the tank in the middle. Have about a 4ft run and never have had problems with it.  Then another 4ft run to empty the tank.  The key is to dump two full bowls of water from the toilet into the tank (or what some call charging the tank) after emptying.  Now on my truck I'm debating whether to use gravity or macerator (vacuum is too expensive and loud) since I have about an 8ft run, but with about a 6ft drop.  The Tecma Silence plus looks like a good macerator toilet-albeit it is around $1,000.00

As to inverter/chargers, the only one I'm considering is the Magnum MS2812 2800watt (by Dick Wrights suggestion)-mainly because it is still made in the US (I believe).  It should be around $1,900.00, but then there is the remote controller for another $280.00 and the auto start interface for your generator for another $150.00.  A bit expensive, but I prefer to save up and have the best equipment, rather then putting up with a lot of el cheapo crap I can buy immediately.  Good Luck, TomC

My tank is on the driver's side of the coach, toilet on the passenger side. They couldn't be farther from each other. Anyway, here's a pic. We full-time...and have had people over...and have never had an issue. 3" pvc and add water to the bowl when you do the "dirty" and there's no issue.

Your intended useage makes a huge difference in what you will need concerning a toilet.
Do you always 'camp' at full hookup sites, or do you 'boon dock' frequently?

If water useage isn't a problem, then just use plenty of water to flush & you should be set.
However, if water useage needs to be minimized, then that is another issue that gets in to tank size along with toilet types.

BTW, macerators have maintenance issues of their own. . .

If I were in the market for an inverter, I'd be interested in the Magnum line.  The folks (read as engineers and others ) came from Trace after Xantrex bought Trace.  Xantrex customer service leaves something to be desired (call them sometime - it's enlightening  :(). The Magnum group make a quality unit priced accordingly.  This is just my opinion learned from life experiences and interacting with Xantrex customer service on several occasions.. I have no financial interest in either Xantrex or Magnum.

On another note - Dick Wright has always been worth listening to - again - only my opinion.
