Found this crap while installing my new led side marker lights that came today...

When I tie a knot in wire like that I always try to drip some solder on it to make a better connection but I like how its out away from everything so they didn't have to waste any black tape on it.
Is it live or just tied up dead stuff?
These are the live wires going to the side marker/turn signal lights.
I must not have been that clear but I meant to say I was replacing my oem markers with leds...
Ace are you using 24 or 12 V LEDs? Just curious.

They probably tied the knot in these wires to keep the electrons from spilling out and causing a short.

BK, these are all 12v. The oem's are 12v as well.
Better to find it now by accident than later on purpose...

This is the kind of "quality workmanship" that keeps me away from buying somebody else's conversion. AFAIK there are several reasons to sell a conversion:
owner ran out of money, so cut all corners before giving up.
owner got tired of fixing it time and time again
owner too old to keep driving
owner died, then some or all of the above may be part of the deal.
Many years ago i bought an old 55 Dodge farm pickup. Started to have a problem with a tail light blowing the fuse every now and then. Crawled underneath and found that from the fuse panel back to the light there were 5 sections of wire spliced together and none were taped. Enough slack that if you hit a bump just right one of the connections could sway enough to come into contact with the frame and short out the fuse if the lights were on. One of those pieces was only 1 foot long. ??? Ran a new wire the whole length back and no more problems. :)
Maybe a Bobby Easter repair Ace sorry I had to say that lol could be he was out of wire nuts at the time

Clifford, now that's funny! To me it looks like a side of the road job from the previous driver. Even the rubber grommets were missing that the screws go into. Who knows?

Clifford, you beat me too it. I was going to say the exact same thing. I know, because we have seen quite a few Bobby Easter specials also ::).
We just replaced the bulbs on our turn/marker side lights. The 1156 (if I remember correctly, but I think the 1157 were wrong) was a direct replacement. Those towers are bright. We are very pleased.
I considered putting surface mount LEDs on there instead, but I canned that. The current turn signal housings are inset in the side. I didn't want to do bodywork, and I didn't want to leave the hole. This worked out very well.
