Title: Hello & Thank You!
Post by: Seangie on October 27, 2011, 08:43:13 AM
I just got accepted into the club and thought it would be polite to introduce my family & myself.

Also to say thank you to all the work you guys & girls do on this board.  I've been online since the beginning of the internet and don't think I have ever seen a more helpful BBS as this one.  It's truly amazing what you all have here. (entertaining too!  ;D )

My name is Sean & my wife's name is Angie (hence the Seangie) We have a family of 4 children, 2 fish and a cat.  We are currently trying to sell everything we own including our home, quit our jobs and get into a bus to see this great country before life sweeps by us.

I have been reading this board & Bus Nuts as well as a few others for some time now and I am inspired by all of you.  Everyone we know thinks we are crazy and we just affirm that in our response.  We are crazy and we know it.  But we also understand that we are ignorant to many things as well and we want to get this done right and have a good experience with our adventure.

I could go on for days writing a novel here but it would defeat the purpose of saying hello :)  So I'll keep it simple and just say thanks to all.  I'll be posting a few questions (probably more like thousands when it is all said and done) over the next couple of months and asking for help and wisdom in the choices we make and the work we do (and work we get done).

Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Sincerely -

Sean & Angie.

Hello Bob & Judy!  We are currently living in Wilmington, NC.  I work for a company out of Orlando and we are there all the time.  My wife was raised in Orlando and I lived there for a good chunk of my life as well.

Sean hello, my name is Ace and I live in nearby Lakeland so if there is anything I can do to be of help, don't hesitate!
Also a good source for viewing coach conversions and meeting the most bus nuts in any one place is coming up soon in Arcadia.  Make done plans now on being there if not for the entire event, then come down for the day!

Ace,

I'll take any information you have for the Rally in Arcadia.  We have some time off for work coming up.  I'll make it a point to be there.  I'd love to talk to some nuts before picking out a bus.

The Rally dates are actually over New Years weekend but most everyone starts getting there the day after Christmas and stats until the day after New Years.
From what I gather, there is going to be 3 different bands for entertainment, catered food, ice cream social, morning donuts, coffee bagels and such. Bingo, jewelry making, line dancing, corn hole tournament, seminars, and vendors plus I'm sure things I missed or forgot!
Bill Phelan is the rally host and he is a member here as well so you can contact him for further info too. He also lives here in Lakeland.

Welcome Sean & Angie
I would recommend a bus rally to. We went to busnusa and learned more in two days than the two years of reading the broad. Got our bus 6 months later. Good luck in looking for your bus and have fun.

Sean and Angie

The Escapees Discussion Forum has a section for full timers and bus conversions. Plus a whole bunch from Beginning RVer's to Hobbies. Membership in Escapees not required. A lot of great info there on the RV lifestyle. For bus info its here on this board.
There is currently a discussion from a family with seven kids deciding if they want to go full time. You should probably follow that one. ;D

Welcome aboard.

Bill

Registered and Payed for the Bus Rally in Arcadia.

I am trying to keep from buying a bus until we at least go to a rally first.  If I succeed at that we will be in a conversion van and pop-up trailer.

Looking forward to meeting you all. (and kicking some butt in cornhole :) )

thanks again for all your help!

Welcome to the madness!   I have an Eagle that I've been using and working on for 10 years.  I'm about 80 miles north east in Morehead City.  I'll buy the Pepsi if we can get together.

Welcome to the lunacy, Seangie!

I am Steve, my wife Blanca. We are located really close to you, in this galaxy, if you want to come down. We are just 100 miles North West of Mexico City, Mexico.

;)     ;D

There is no better gathering place on the web to learn about bus conversions than this one. It does not matter what question you have, there will be somebody with an answer for you.

This might be a great time to buy an already-converted bus, for those in the U. S., as the economy is producing many for sale at real good prices. And as has been said before on this thread, just make sure engine/mechanical/body structure are in great shape. There will usually be somebody from this list nearby to give your prospect bus a checkout and help you decide.

If you are traveling with the four kids, buses with a second bedroom are far less common. Ours will have a bunk room, plus the dinette-becomes-a-double-bed system, as we earnestly desire to to be able to travel with the most awesome grandkids in this galaxy from time to time.

And you also have the option on the road to home-school your kids. I never went to a regular school until sixth grade. I grew up in Oaxaca, southern Mexico, and my Mom was our school teacher.

So many nuts....so little time :)

Art - We will try to make it up there sometime in the next 6 months.  We love to travel to New Bern and your just an extra nights stay away taking 70 on the way back so I look forward to meeting you and seeing what you have done with your bus.

Oonrahnjay - I PM'd you.  Let me know if you got it.  We should be on a road trip in the next few weeks driving by your town and I'd love to see your bus.

Steve - My wife is begging me to go to Mexico.  Knowing someone down there will just be one more reason to drive south of the border in November and be sipping margaritas and eating Arroz Con Pollo, Tamales and some freshly caught fish tacos while they dig out of the snow in the northeast.  My kids are currently home schooled so that won't be an issue...Taking them on the road across this continent will be the best schooling they could get anywhere.  As far as the layout we will be pushing the Galley/Kitchen forward and creatively combining with the "living room".  We will have double bunks on each side of the bus and I am contemplating designing one set of bunks that possibly "slide up" during the day and using the space underneath them for some kind of desk/work area.

Thanks again to all of you!!!  Looking forward to getting corrupted with lunatics and justifying the insanity.
