Recently I found my self driving and suddenly no power steering. Oil all over my toad and back of bus. :'( extreme depression sat in with fear of broken 40 ft long hose running to front of bus being broken. After arm strong steering to my destination (only a few short miles away) at the choo -choo rally. A fellow buss nut help me locate leak. He had worked on these type of things before. It was the O-ring where the pressure relief valve is in the side of the power steering pump. He informed me that this is a more common occurrence than anyone would think. Simple fix for pennies for the O-ring but the 6 quarts of Dextron wasn't. So now in the tool box is also a assortment of O-rings and roll-pins.(the one holding the plunger in shattered when I took it out). Thought I would share something simple to add to your tool box to keep a minor fix from becoming a major problem. Bob
Thanks, Bob. Sounds like a good idea. Glad it was an easy fix. That's my favorite kind.

It's nice when the fix is that easy. Did the O-ring blwo out suddenly emptying the fluid or was it slow over the course of the trip? What kind of power steering do you have? Thanks for the post... every bit of info that prepares me for the future is well recieved.
Actually had just hardened with time. was still in shape. When it started leaking it did a quick job of dumping fluid. Didn't notice it a stop 1 hr before failure. Was a stock power steering pump on back of 8V92. Was not in two pieces. just hard. Bob
Had the same problem on our MC-8 (8V71) shortly after we got it, except ours was more a chronic leak rather than a sudden blowout. It is a Vickers Pump.
When I had to change the pressure relief valve to a higher pressure with our new intergral power steering this past summer, I went ahead and replaced the O ring, spring, plug, and roll pin. I considered it cheap preventive maintainence. Jack
Uh oh! I hope that is not the 3/4 inch circular indentation with a pin across it that I just filled with silicon after noticing a small leak.
That really is not a standard O-ring on the Vickers pump valve a regular o-ring will get you by but it will start leaking again,$1.80 from Vickers or a Cat dealer
good luck
Thank's for that info Clifford. I just matched it up. Does correct one fill slot up? Bob
Yep
good luck
I Questioned that when I got O-ring. From working on the concrete pump spools I sort of figured it had the flatter style O-ring in it. I just put back what it had -so no big thing I'll break the big box out and match up to the grove. Thanks again
