Title: Looking for a part.
Post by: PP on October 20, 2011, 05:26:33 PM
I moved less than 200 feet and I lose an air sensor switch. I got my last one at Napa, and now they don't have a clue even though I have the same part number they used the last time. Should have bought a spare I guess. Does anyone have a good online source for one? It's a Bendix #291843N. Simple little switch that plugs into the air line and has 2 terminals on it. If it just works a buzzer, I might just screw a plug into the fitting.
Thanks in advance,
Will

Will ; if it is in the top of your spare tire bay it is prob your brake light switch.  Ck any truck parts dealer.  Let me know and I will get you a prevo and cross over number for it.   Bob

Bob, It's up above in what might have been the spare tire bay on some Prevost's, but that's where the A/C pumps are on mine for the split units. There are actually 3 of these sensor switches in there that I can see and I've replaced one once before. This one of course is the hardest one to reach and  was a real bugger getting out. When it's removed, everything goes flat except the auxilliary air tank. (and of course the air bags because of their check valves). To those safety conscious folk out there, yes, I still set blocks before I crawled up in there. LOL
The switch has a 1/4" threaded male with 2 electrical terminals on opposite sides. With all the air brake systems out there I would have thought these or something comparable would be everywhere.

I'll dig out my books tomorrow too and see if it's really a necessary switch or if I can bypass it, at least for a while ;D It started raining out and I'm tired and hungry right now. Thanks Bob,
Will
I forgot to add, the last one was just a low air sensor and set off alarms until the pressure reached 60PSI. I have  a feeling this one does the same thing, just a different part of the system. There are several lights in the armrest that signifies which system is low on air when the buzzer goes off, (when you turn the key on until it comes up to pressure all the lights are lit) this switch probably just monitors one of those.

Are those replacements 24 volts? The originals are.

The Prevo switches have a hard composit plastic body but they are 3 pieces held togeather with 2 small screws.

Ive replaced them due to leaking  only to find the new ones leaked too. Good luck.

They werent leaking out the thread but from the housing and I only dare tighten so far for fear of stripping them.

The brake light sensor is the big round one screwed into the brake pedal itself.

The one Im describing is 1 of a pair they are the senders for the low air warning. Sorta rectangular.

Not in a good location by any definition but it would not be a prevo otherwise ::)

Yes Joe, they are 24V and yes, you described the exact part. They leak where the body pieces come together. I was thinking of using gasket compound on the two pieces and see if that would help. Tightening the screws only made the leak worse haha. Will

Is this it?

The voltage does not matter for this switch.

Yep, they're LP-3's. Thank you for that info. and thanks for the link Len. I used to have all these links at hand until I got a new laptop. I thought I moved everything over to this one, but most of my bus related links got lost in the translation ::) At least my link to this site didn't get lost, that would have been horrific ;D
