Title: New toilet....sorry I know it comes up quite a bit
Post by: John316 on October 19, 2011, 02:08:48 PM
I have been reading archives, but I wanted to double check.

We are going to have to get a new toilet. Our current Sealand 510 has been nothing but trouble. We have decided enough is enough. It does not hold liquid (I don't want to get graphic ;D). It rarely seals fumes out (yes we have proper venting, but still). I have replaced the seals several times. Sealand said that they don't sell the 510 any more (lol, I wonder why), but they sent us their kit to fix the issues. That kit didn't.

So, all we want is a good reliable toilet, which I hope isn't asking too much. Foot pedal operation is fine with me. We have the little sprayer now, which we will want with the new one. I really don't want to spend 1K on the really fancy one that we just talked about. BUT, if it is the most reliable, and we won't have issues, we might.

Please give me your advice.

Thanks in advance.

John

I'm eagerly watching for problems with particular Brands as I have to purchase two soon.  I have a therford now and after 5 yrs the bowl seal that holds water in it leaks off in hours and lets smell out. prob new seal would help! I coated with vaseline this last outing and it stopped problem--this was a trick I learned from t- tops on corvette's. Prefer not to do it: but in a pinch.

Thanks Bob.

Anybody else? If you have a toilet, please let me know what you have and if you like it.

It can be something as simple as this.

Sealand 510, Don't like.

Thanks.

Thetford Aria Classic - I really like it - about $450

There is both an electronic version and the foot pedal version.  This is the foot pedal version.  Why complicate things with electronics on a toilet?

Have had several Sealands in different RV's.  Never had a problem.

Ditto this. Bought it new for $99 and it's seriously a great toilet. China bowl...sits at a great height, and the measurements are identical to the house toilet we had in our house. Comfortable. No issues whatsoever.

I just did this research myself.  Converting a coach and decided the toilet was to be one of the first items to buy.  The floor plan really has to work around where the toilet sits... tanks, etc.

Anyway, I researched for over a month.  Looked at every toilet I could get my hands on.  One thing that was important to me is that the toilet be full residential height and have an elongated bowl.  I'm not putting up with this miniature stuff.

So, this is what I bought:
http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-toilets-tanks/rv-toilets-aria-deluxe.htm (http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-toilets-tanks/rv-toilets-aria-deluxe.htm)

I didn't like buying from PPL.  They were neither friendly or knowledgeable.  Not unkind, but they just don't know anything about toilets.  But, their price was the best I found.  Even cheaper than Flea-Bay.  I spent $500 + $80 shipping.  Their website says "free shipping" but that doesn't apply to things you might actually purchase.  They said it didn't apply because the toilet had to ship by freight.  Well, it showed up by UPS.

I can't tell you if the toilet is good or bad yet, I haven't used it yet.  But, I'm satisfied with my purchase and did enough research to put the toilet issue behind me for now.

Thanks for the replies. I have been researching, and looking into them again (maybe at them?).

I will let you know what we decide on.

Thanks,

John

Yes John you should be looking at them and not in them, as the view could be crappy in them. ;)
