Title: Used Aluminum wheels
Post by: Bus Busted on October 14, 2011, 08:24:31 PM
With two events that I know of this weekend (one in North Indiana and one in South TN) if anyone sees a set of 6 Aluminum Rims for sale could you let me know. I have a 1986 MCI 102A3 with stock tires. I have the 6v92 turbo engine W/ 4 speed auto tranny. I think that some go with larger or smaller tires when going to Aluminum Rims and not sure how that will work with this engine setup. Let me know, Thanks Jon

You need to make sure that you get the correct style of wheels for your bus. I think there is three different styles.  Do a search on here and you should find all kinds of info.

The size would depend on if your current gearing is under, over, or just right. On a 40' coach, you can probably get away with any size in terms of load rating, so your only worry is diameter.

Chances are, your current wheels are "Budd" style. AKA stud centric. Make sure you get the wheels with the large, chamfered holes!

When I changed my rears this summer, I upsized from 20.00R20 to 22.4R24.5. This gained me 3% in gearing, which was much needed as I have a 4.11 rearend. If I went with 22.5R22.5 I would've lost 3% :( I avoided 315/80 due to cost and availability.

You may also have to install longer studs to fit the new wheels,, check before buying.>>>Dan

MCI could have stud, or hub piloted wheels or 5 of each type on each like the prison bus models use

good luck
