Sean:
With regard to your dilemma about overnight parking in Atlanta, enroute to Chattanooga:
Tried to post this as a comment on your site, but it wouldn't take. (I have a squirrelly laptop).
Anyway:
Checked with a MARTA rep: the gate width clearance at these two ground lots is 9 feet 8 inches, but sleeping in a vehicle is prohibited. Also, these are not the best of neighborhoods, as mentioned by others.
If the Ashford Dunwoody WalMart permits RVs, stay there and borrow my truck for your errands - I live 10-15 mins away. This northside location is safer, and a few miles closer to I-75 and the Chattanooga rally.

Mike,
That's truly a generous offer!
I took the liberty to copy and email it directly to them so they might see it sooner in order to make plans.
;D BK ;D
I also have access to a flat lot where they could overnight in the northern Atlanta suburbs.

Thanks. How far is it from MARTA? I need to drop Louise off at 5:50 to catch the first train.
We came to Dunwoody, but the Wal-Mart is posted No Overnight Parking and everything around here appears to be owned by the same RV-unfriendly outfit.

A hair over 15 miles to the North Springs MARTA Station. That time of morning it would take less than 25 minutes. The lot is less than 2 miles off GA 400 at Exit 12.
I'll be up at the rally tomorrow. We can talk more if you are interested.
Only need it tonight.
We are going to try to make it overnight under the radar here. If they boot me out in the middle of the night I will head down to College Park; the Wal-Mart there is 15 minutes from the airport.
Thanks everyone.

My practice in those situations Sean is to keep a glass of beer handy. In the event of an attempted night time eviction I intend to say "OK osshifer washever you wantsh but I don't shink ish a real good idea" all accompanied by beer breath of course. So far the circumstance has never arisen.
Bob I'm surprised you would suggest such a thing. I would think that you would invite the officer in for a spot of scotch while you let the bus "air up" so you can move to better environs.
Melbo
Sorry but this can net a DWI arrest.....even if the keys are not in the ignition....

I don't have any keys to the ignition of my bus so can I get arrested for DWI ANYTIME???

I must be some kind of HORRIBLE CRIMINAL

oh balderdash. what normal judge, jury or cop would issue or sustain a ticket for dwi for a sitting in the parking lot bus, having a beer, while staying the night? :o That's got to be right up there with the probability of getting hit by space junk ;D.
i'd take my chances in the lot Sean, i'm with Bob and Melbo, altho more with Melbo. i prefer Scotch, but Yingling amber ale is pretty good.
I'm pretty sure Sean has bent some rules on staying overnite before, tho probably not with Bob's method in mind.
Sean
Are you still on the road to the rally/repair shop? Hope that You have LONG left behind the parking lot in question. When you first posted We used to have a Kamen Bearing branch here ( as we are home to several poultry companys Perdue farms. Whenever you start thinking that someone or some organization is out to get you just remember that there are more things in this world that are explained by stupidity than by malice.

I simply am amazed at how a wonderful effort by Mike to help a member in trouble, has somehow drifted to some sort of pi$$ing match. I have asked the moderators to lock this thread.

FYI:
Georgia DUI Laws
Understanding DUI
There are some startling facts that you may be unaware of about being charged with driving under the influence (DUI) in Georgia. The biggest shock for many people is discovering that a one-year license suspension is automatically headed their way – even if they've never been to court or pronounced guilty. You read that correctly; you could actually lose your license to drive without ever seeing a judge or jury.
How is this so? Unless an administrative appeal is filed with the Department of Driver Services within 10 business days of your arrest to challenge the suspension, you will automatically lose your driving privileges for a year. For this reason, it's urgent to file a timely appeal to protect your ability to drive and keep your license active. The Law Office of HTW&W offers a free appeal letter and can even ensure submission to the DDS on your behalf.
Another detail that trips up many individuals is mistakenly assuming that the state of Georgia allows their DUI record to be expunged after the passage of time. Unfortunately, a DUI conviction remains on your criminal record forever, following you to the grave. Since a criminal record can jeopardize your present employment and future career, it's vital to aggressively contest any charges with an experienced and highly qualified DUI attorney.
The Georgia DUI Laws Explained
It is a criminal offense in Georgia to operate a car, truck, motorcycle, or pilot a watercraft when a motorist's ability is impaired by the use of alcohol or drugs, or if a driver's blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is above regulated allowances. Drugs that may compromise driving abilities include street drugs, prescription medications, and even over-the-counter medication.
While .08% BAC is the statutory limit at which you may be charged with DUI, you could also be convicted at just .05% if the prosecution can firmly establish beyond a reasonable doubt that you were a less safe driver due to the consumption of alcohol. The legal BAC limit for commercial license holders and underage drivers is even lower. A commercial driver could be convicted at .04% and a driver under the age of 21 could be convicted with a BAC of just .02%
The Punishment
Jail time, probation, steep fines, community service, driving restrictions, and alcohol treatment programs are all possible if you are found guilty of a Georgia DUI. Because judges must follow the "mandatory minimum" sentencing guidelines, even a first-time offender could spend at least 24 hours in jail. Judges are also free to impose harsher penalties and often do because of public pressure or their own private views.
Several factors could result in even stiffer punishments. The judge will consider any prior DUI offenses, the presence of a child or children in the vehicle, whether any other moving violations occurred, whether a commercial vehicle was being operated or whether there was any property damage, injury, or death.
If your BAC is over the legal limit, or if you decline to take the chemical tests, your license will automatically be suspended for a year if it is your first offense, three years for a second offense, or five years for a third offense. An ignition interlock device may also be installed in your vehicle when you finally do regain the ability to drive. Similar to a breathalyzer, this device will prevent your vehicle from starting unless your BAC registers under .02%. For a fourth DUI offense, your vehicle may be confiscated. Even in the most lenient sentence, you will be required to complete a mandatory alcohol education course as well as substance abuse assessment and/or treatment
• What takes place if I've been drinking, but I am pulled over for something else?
I Believe this applies to any confrontation/interaction with Georgia LEO
You may be pulled over for a poor driving ability such as weaving, driving slowly or speeding, or many other reasons, or even because you have a tail light out on your car. If the police officer believes you may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, it does not matter why you were pulled to the side. You may be asked to perform field sobriety tests or give to a chemical test. The cop is rightly within legal rights to ask you to cooperate. You may be arrested if you refuse to do so, and, no matter what the final results, your driver's license may be suspended for three months to one year for refusal to perform field sobriety tests. Cooperation with law enforcement is one of the criteria you agree to for the licence of holding a driver's license.
Hi Folks,
I do think this discussion has far drifted off the original topic...
I am locking it down before some of you go too far and say things you may regret.
Have a great night!
