Title: Trip summary
Post by: Ed Hackenbruch on October 12, 2011, 07:34:35 AM
Since a lot of folks like to hear about trips completed i thought i would give the results of our latest. :)  We left Yuma on 4/26 headed north to Eastern Wa. by way of Montana. ( I like to vary our route a little so that we see something new each trip).  We got back to Yuma on 10/8.  Trip mileage was 4092 miles. Fuel used was 575.18 gallons. Cost was $2335.64 and we averaged 7.114 miles per gallon.  Worst mileage was 5.97, best was 8.03. We made 7 fuel stops, least amount purchased was 59 gal., most was 104.2.  We fueled up at the new Love's at I-40 & Hiway 95 in Az. and at the Flying J in Evanston Wy. on both the north bound and south bound parts of the trip. Going north between the two we got 6.91 mpg and going south we got 7.68 mpg. Used about 1 & 1/2 gallons of oil. No breakdowns, no problems, no drama, guess from that respect it was a boring trip!

6 month trip?  Wow, that's not a trip that's a life style change!

Good news is always the best!

If that's boring, I'd take a boring trip every time!   ;D

Got to update this,......turns out i did have a couple of small problems that i had forgotten about until i started doing a few things on the bus this morning. :-[   During the trip one of the small side doors back by the engine came open and would not stay latched,....just wired it up so i could still access thru it but would also stay latched while going down the road. Turns out that the rivets that held the latch were getting loose so i replaced them today.  Also when i was checking my engine one morning i noticed that i had an oil leak, ( big surprise there huh? )  coming from where my filler pipe enters the valve cover. Tightened up the fitting and no more leak for the rest of the trip. :)   And now the big one!   Somewhere in Wyoming we hit a road construction project where they had ground out the asphalt but had not tapered into it very well,...if at all... couldn't really see it until we hit it, and we hit it hard even though we were only doing about 15-20 mph. It was about a 3-4 inch drop which doesn't sound like much but trust me,... it is in a bus. I thought at the time that i would be lucky if it did no damage and thought that it hadn't,.....until this morning,   i noticed that one of my upper rear radius arms on one end is not where it is supposed to be and it looks like the bushing is missing. Will have to pull the wheels off on that side to get a better look and repair it,... good thing i have my 12x torque multiplier and my 20 ton air over hyd. jacks. ;D  Probably gonna be a while before i get around to doing that. So i guess my trip was more exciting that i thought. ;D

Brian, most of that 6 months was spent in 3 different places waiting to see if there was going to be work for me. There wasn't. :(  The best part was on the way up and back where we got to play around and see the country some. ;D
